Question

Saving an edited image

I'm new to Photoshop, and cannot understand how to save an image I have edited.  To make things more complicated, I'm still getting used to using my new laptop.  When I subscribed to Photoshop, it was incompatible with my old computer.

I edit the image out of my folder of JPGs, but when I try to save it to the same folder, it tells me "No items match your search".

I would be grateful for any advice.

We would be remiss if we didn't mention that JPEGs are lossy and lose information each time they are edited and saved, so it is not a best practice to edit and resave JPEGs. That being said, how are you saving?

  • Save
  • Save as
  • Save a Copy

Can you post a screen shot of the alert?

I agree with Jane-e and I have another thought. When you are saving after editing? Does the image have layers? If so you should save as a psd first. So if you need to go back and make changes you can. Then flatten the image and save as a slightly different name.

I also should have said when you save as after flattening you choose to save as a jpeg because you do not want to save as over you psd. You will not be able to go back and edit if you save as psd after flattening the image.

Welcome to this Photoshop forum Wendy.

There are several issues in your post.

Firstly, can you state which version of Photoshop and the OS you have?

And also how much RAM and hard disk capacity you have in your present computer?

Photoshop is a complex application with a steep learning curve, it's best to get some tuition – LinkedIn Learning https://www.linkedin.com/learning/me have some excellent step-by-step video tutorials and you can get 30-days free access.

Return here with specific questions and the answers I asked at the beginning of my post.
