Select All > Copying only visible portions of layers

Imagine an image that measures 600 X 600 pixels. If you change the canvas size to 600 X 400 pixels, then choose select all, you only copy the portion of the image that's visible. In other words, you will past an image measuring 600 X 400 pixels.

Now imagine a file measuring 600 X 600 pixels that contains several layers. However, one particular image measures 700 X 800 pixels. If you choose Select All > Copy, the new file you create will measure 700 X 800 pixels.

I want to select and copy all layers, but I only want to copy the visible portions. So when I create a new file, it will measure 600 X 600 pixels. I guess another way of saying it is that I would like to clip the images, deleting all portions that aren't visible.

How do you delete or erase the portion of a layer that in't visible? And is there a way to "batch process" it? In other words, is there a command that will erase the portions of ALL layers that aren't visible?

One option might be to Duplicate (found in the Image menu) the image rather than copying and pasting layers. In the duplicate file go to the Crop Tool and make sure that Delete Cropped Pixels is selected in the options bar at the top of Photoshop. Press the Enter/Return key twice to start and to then commit the crop. Any pixels that were in layers outside of the canvas area should now be removed.
