Smudge tool not working in PS

So I am completely new to digital art and I was using a Gaomon M106K drawing tablet, I started using photoshop for the first time and all was well until I went to use the smudge tool and it froze. It's like the circle cursor for the tool just froze and wouldn't let me switch my tools or close the application. I don't know what to do.

I am having this trouble with my graphic tablet and pen also, except the mouse doesn't work with it either. Whenever I go to use the smudge tool, photoshop freezes, triples it's memory use, and I have to force quit. I tried restarting photoshop, and deleting preferences, but it did not help.

The smudge tool is VERY SLOW!!! Especially at large sizes. Frankly, at a large brush size, it's useless.

Hi,

try doing a force Quit (Command+Option+Esc or Control+Alt+Delete PC) then you can restart Photoshop and it hopefully solves your issue. If not you can restart Photoshop holding down Command+Option+Shift (win: Ctrl+Alt+Shift) to delete Photoshop preferences which can also help.
