Wacom on Photoshop, Mac VS PC

Explorer ,
Mar 18, 2021 Mar 18, 2021

Hi all,

I have used Wacom Tablets for Photoshop on both platforms and many computers. On PCs my experience with the drivers was usually bad, with pressure sensitivity going in and out, among other things, and tons of fiddling. With Macs, I've only had problems since OS Big Sur. I'm planning on buying a new workstation, this time a PC, as my Mac is getting old. Any thoughts on what to look for in regard to the Wacom tablet? Is Windows 10 Pro any better handling this?

Thanks for chiming in!

If you configure Windows, Adobe Photoshop and Wacom software and have a good Wacom driver installed you should not have any problem with your wacom Pen with Photoshop.  In fact you can choose between two  Pen interfaces with you Wacom Pen.  Windows INK Pen Support or the Older better performing WinTab interface,   There are several versions of  Photoshop  that have issue with WinTab interface,  Adobe broke the WinTab support in one PS update and did no fix it till 6  more updates. Wacom pens work even in PS 2021 but the are many issues in PS 2021.  Use PS 2020 version 21.2.6. Here is how to configure Windows 10, PS, and Wacom settings.

Most Workstation run Windows 10 Pro like my old Dell workstation.  I would think Windows 10 Home would be good also. But you need to understand you software environment.  Microsoft, Apple, and Adobe all have their own plans.  IMO Adobe software development is not manage well and they are trying to support Windows, Mac OS, IOS and new mac M1 and ARM processes as well.  PS is on a bumpy rocky road.

Thanks JJMack, how nice of you! This leaves no questions open!

I also felt that the three (apple, windows, adobe) are drifting apart. Apple ha been better in that regard but it's changing. Not having Photoshop with a tablet working properly on either platform will be a huge industry disruptor (I'm personally in VFX).
