Windows threat detected during CC / Photoshop update: pngquant.exe

Community Beginner ,

I was just updating CC apps, and while updating Photoshop CC, Windows Defender Antivirus detected a threat. PWS:Win32/Lineage.gen!C.dam, in file: C:\adobeTemp\ETRBFFE.tmp\1\Application\pngquant.exe

Can Adobe check to see whether pngquant.exe is an issue? It looks like there is a copy in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019, but the threat was detected in a temp directly during upgrade.

After the upgrade, I re-scanned C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019, and no threat was detected, despite the presence of pngquant.exe in the directory.

Check this thread and run pngquaint.exe through virustotal which is linked there. I suspect a false positive.

Hi echengcom

That shouldn't be happening as Photoshop file saved in the temp location is being detected as a threat by Windows Defender. Let's make it right.

I agree gener7 that this is not a true threat detected. Could you please check that your Antivirus definitions are up to date? The location "C:\adobeTemp\ETRBFFE.tmp\1\Application\pngquant.exe" belongs to the temp storage and you may go ahead and quarantine this file.

Thanks,

Akash
