4K video exports desaturated

Original video is from iphone 12  4k quality looks great in both VLC and Quicktime. I edit and then export in PE 2021 with the BEST 4K setting possible and it comes out looking desaturated in both video viewers. Looks worse in QT but still not same quality in VLC as it was originally. This is very frustrating as it looks like i"m using a filter and I don't want that. Any suggestions what could be going on? Would upgrading to PE 2022 fix this?  See screen shot of video clip bleached out is after rendering at 4K (same settings as import) of the 2nd photo which is screen shot of the original. Thanks for any help!!Screen Shot 2021-12-15 at 4.00.03 PM.png

I'm confused.  Which is the output?  Left or right?  In either case, what you have is not normal.   To work through this a lot is needed.

What is the makeup of the iPhone video?  Post the "tree view" from the (free) program called MediaInfo.

What are the project settings and how did you set them?

What are you doing in the project?

What exactly are the output settings?  Maybe a screen shot?

No, upgrading to another version is not the fix.

I have 4k video from my iphone. I am trying to edit it on my macbook in PE2021. The export settings for the Premeire elements is set at same settings as the imported video  but yet the quality doesn't look as good as the original video it looks desaturated and not as crisp and clear. Thanks for any advice!Screen Shot 2021-12-18 at 12.48.04 AM.png

Like Bill, I'd like to know more details about the original footage.

Can you open your iPhone video in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the text of the report and paste it to this forum.

It's quite possible a color mode or setting in the original. Or it could simply be the way VLC reads HEVC video.

I'll download Media info and share that info once I figure out how to do.  What I find odd is that when I open the files I imported from my iphone they look good in both VLC and QT and read it fine. But when I export it from PE is the only time it looks different. That is how I can give you the side by side. So something is happening in the process of the PE program export.

There is a saying: garbage in garbage out.

You cannot make something out of nothing.

Set phone to 4K 60 fps high efficiency and turn hdr of.

See how that goes.

For good images the phone needs good lighting.

I have the 12 pro max.

of course but this is something I'm just doing for fun, not a professional video, it's a holiday greeting song spoof  I did not want to set up lighting and was trying to do myself fast. I was looking for soft lights by fire so just used the natural lighting of the room. I knew it was dark but the original video looks decent enough. I would be happy with that if I could get it but when it exports from PE 2021 it doens't come out the same.

I have the 12 pro max as well. I have the settings to 4K 24fps but have HDR turn on. So will turn off in future. I'm confused as to the 24 vs 60 FPS is that when it's darker it should be set to 60?? Thanks for this info!

Sorry I was not clear in the photo the output is the 1st photo and the 2nd one (the darker) is the original which is what I want when I output I don't want it looking bleached out or less crisp.

In all honesty, the original image in the screenshot does not look all that great for a 4K video.

Is this HDR?

I agree it doesn't look great. It is HDR but the lighting was poor. It was a dimly lite room and with mostly fireplace lighting. I did not know how to change settings on my phone to imporove this so just left it at the basic 4K 24FPS setting.

Under FX Presets/Color Effects you will find: increase saturation.

Use that on an adjustment layer befor export.

I did increase it and it looked a bit better, I actually used Darkroom for it. But it still did not help the details it did not look as crisp. It's very weird as I've had this problem with some other video from the iphone. Then again there have been times it works perfect.
