APE 2024 (and 2021) – GPU transitions – problem?

I’ve noticed some problem with real time playback of videos consisting of (GPU accelerated) transitions. The playback in monitor window is not smooth if the transition is applied to a same clip which was split before.

However, if I apply the transition to two different clips the playback it perfectly smooth. This is very annoying. I recoded this video to show the problem:

https://youtu.be/1E8a-HdIEHQ

What I did is:

I imported first video and split it. Then I applied transition, and the playback wasn’t smooth at all, even though the transition was GPU accelerated. Then, I imported the second video and applied the same transition between two videos and this time playback in monitor window was very smooth.

I know that I can render the timeline to get real time playback but I paid for version of APE with GPU acceleration to avoid it whenever I use GPU accelerated transitions and effects.

Do you see similar behaviour of APE?

My understanding is that tranistions in any editor need a few frames to work with.  So with a split clip, the nearby frames are too similar to look smooth to the eye.  Where the tranition is between clips, the transitions do the same thing with the last few frames from the first clip and the first few frames of the second clip.   Steve Grissitti has a tutorial about this on his YouTube channel that is much more clear than I can put into words.

Your tone suggests you are unhappy with the new version Premiere Elements.   I don't work for Adobe but my sense is that they want happy customers.  One way to ensure that is to offer a complete refund time window.  Be sure to get your money back before the window closes!

Thank you for your reply. I know what you mean when saying about “nearby frames are too similar” That is why I deleted some part of the clip just after splitting it to make adjacent frames to look different. Please have a look at the video I recorded. The moment of splitting and deleting part of the video is visible at 0:39

Besides, I’m OK with how the transition looks. No complaints here. The problem is that playback is not smooth. This is performance problem. At first, I thought that my computer is too slow but then I noticed that playback is perfectly smooth when transition is applied between two different videos clips. This is also visible in my video.

There are many things that I like about APE but I’m disappointed that there are also some very basic issues which hasn’t been addressed for such a long time.
