I tried changing to use GPU under 'Preferences -> General' but it says that 'Detected Graphic Processor(GPU) is unsupported'
Surely Adobe premiere elements workings with a GPU? When rendering my CPU goes to 100% and my GPU doesn't do anything

Nvidia drivers are up to date as of today

If taking advantage of your graphics card's power is vital for you, then Premiere Elements is probably not your best choice regardless. Premiere Elements uses your GPU for some timeline and preview functions. The program is much more CPU intensive and depends very little on a powerful graphics card.

You'd be best to look into a pro program like Premiere Pro CC.
