Is PE 2024 stable while working on a project in Windows 11?

I had to reinstall PE 2022  on my new Dell XPS 8960 desktop.  Windows 11 Home. Version 23H2, Processor i713700, RAM 64GB, 64-bit operating system x64-based. Graphic Card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060Ti. Driver version: 31.0.15.5241. Editing in 4K with 30 fps frame rate.

PE 2022 is very unstable. For example, when I add additional files and music to the project the application gets frozen and I get a pop-up: Premiere Elements is not responding. If I am lucky I can close the application if not, I eventually get a black screen and have to restart the desktop.

I did not have this kind of problems on my old desktop in Windows 10.

Questions:

1.  Is it possible to make PE 2022 really work in Windows 11?

2. If I upgrade PE 2022 to PE 2024 will PE 2024 work smoothly in Windows 11?

3. Is there a video editing software on the market that works great in Windows 11 and also allows to publish a project on a blu-ray disc and also create ISO file?

Thanks. Lev.

I don't see anything here that would indicate an issue with your source video or your project settings. And you've certainly got plenty of power. Much more than I have! So I don't know why you're having issues with the program. It should roll fairly smoothly for you.

Hopefully John will see something I'm not.

Meantime it may seem counter-intuitive but go to the General page of your Preferences and UNCHECK Use Hardware Accelaration. This feature doesn't do much for performance and has been known

The underlying programming for Premiere Elements hasn't changed in about a decade. Newer versions are not really more stable than other recent versions.

Stability is more often a result of the video you're editing and how close the program's Project Settings match your video specs. When you add your video to the timeline is there an orange line along the top of the timeline above your video? This indicates that there is not a clean match between video specs and project settings.

Where is your video coming from? What is the video's resolution and frame rate?

Hi Steve,

My video is coming from Sony FDR-AX53 4K Ultra HD Handycam Camcorder. When I added my video to the timeline there was no orange line along the top of the timeline above my video. The orange line appears above a selected clip when I add an advanced adjustment for this  clip. Project setting general: frame size 3840 x 2160. frame rate: 29.97 frames/second. The same setting is for any individual clip.

Card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060Ti. Driver version: 31.0.15.5241. Have no idea if it is the Studio Driver or Game-Ready driver. No such info in the property of the card.

Hi Steve,

I have UNCHECKED <Use Hardware Accelaration>. on the General page of my Preferences. Hopefully it will help.

Thanks. Lev.

P.S. I tried to add more music and I haven't experienced any problems as of before. No frozen screen. A very smooth editing. Your UNCHECK Use Hardware Accelaration solved the problem. Thank you very much Steve.

>NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060Ti. Driver version: 31.0.15.5241

I have an nVidia GTX 1650 with driver 511.09 so your driver number is 'foreign' to me

I do know that Dell is 'sometimes' proprietary with hardware and drivers, so you might want to use the link I provided to see if nVidia has a driver for your card... and if Dell will allow you to install a driver from the card maker

Other than that, I don't have any other ideas

Hi John,

I contacted Dell and it is what I have preinstalled on my desktop:

Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Studio Driver. Version 552.41. The latest version on  https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us  is 560.81 with release date 8/06/2024. I can update it directly from NVIDIA website or through Dell. As of now, Dell says: There are no new updates.🙂 and knowing that I have Studio Driver I can live with it for now since it is compatible with PE 2022.

Lev.
