Video shot on Sony 4K Camera

Using Premier Elements 2018 to edit

Trying to merge JPEG Photos shot on a variety of Cameras - none of which are 4K  - including Mobile Phone Camera but Elements is refusing.

Error Message says Metadata is not compatible and has been discarded meaning job will not render/export to USB stick.

Can anyone offer a solution on how to either change the metadata to an acceptable specification of otherwise have Elements ignore?

Grateful for any help as photos are really important to finished Video.

Thanks in advance.

If you're trying to load the JPG files directly onto the Timeline, do this instead.

1. Drag JPG file into Project Assets

2. Move video to position to make room for image OR cut and clear where you want the still shots to go.

3. Drag the JPG from the Project Assets to the position you want it on the Timeline above the Video or insert on the same line as the video if you've cleared a space for it.

In general, it's easier to first drag all video and image files to the Project Assets window before putting everything together.

Thanks but basically that is what I have been doing except I gave been

inserting the puc in the same timeline as the video so I will try using

seperate timeline for the stills and see what happens.

Many thanks

So it sounds like you're saying that you're having trouble loading photos into your project.

What is the resolution of these photos?

Try resizing them to no larger than 2500 pixels wide and 1875 pixels tall.

There is a maximum size photo threshold in Premiere Elements.

I regularly insert stills, both JPEG and RAW, without resizing, into videos and never have had a problem.   To help me see what is not working for you, could you please post a screen shot or the exact wording of the "Message says Metadata is not compatible and has been discarded".

Hi Steve

No the JPEG’s are imported into the time line ok and are visible in the Time Line in their correct position between video clips.

The issue is when Exporting the edited/titled/finished video (inc the JEPG’s) to a USB Drive storage.

Wanting to play the finished video on a 4K TV I’m exporting using the Export/Device/TV/4K preset.

Prem. Elements goes through the Rendering process right to the end of the time line but stops short of writing it to the USB Drive and that is when you get the error message stating that the Metadata on some of the media is not recognised and has been discarded meaning that that the whole movie export process crashes out.

I’m thinking that because the JPEG’s are NOT taken in 4K (most are at best digital HD and some are digital low res standard definition) that the Export Process sees the non 4K (low res) Metadata and cannot export it to 4K hence my question if there is a way to change the metadata to 4K or get Prem. Elements to work around and accept the non 4K images.

Or if there is some OTHER issue as yet undiscovered!

If you have any bright ideas I would welcome them with open arms!!

Kind regards

Ron Phillips

USB drives can have three different formats. One does not work well with large files.  4K makes large files!

What ever it is, it is not JPEGs or Metadata.  I use Premiere Elements with JPEGs in the projects a lot.  It works without issue regardless of the size or source.  JPEGs are easy work for Premiere Elements.

Even when you export to an internal drive you may not be able to copy the MP4 final to the thumb drive depending on the base lever format.  It will depend on the size of the final file.  They can be quickly reformatted.  If you have files greater than 4 GB and use Windows devices, NTFS is a good format choice. If you use macOS devices, HFS+ will work for you.  And if you use more devices and bigger files, exFAT may work well.

Hi to all

I would like to thank everyone for their input re my issue with 4K and

Jpegs.

You have all given me a lot to think about and to experiment with!

I am going to mark the Thread "Answered" and withdraw now to work through

all the suggestions to see if any or a combination of any will resolve the

issue.

Again many Thanks!
