Motion Tracker vs Shake Reduction

New Here ,
Jan 11, 2022 Jan 11, 2022

I'm running Premiere 2022 with W10 and I am wondering which, Motion Tracking or Shake Reduction, to eliminate camera shake. I've tried each separately and both together with no significant change.

1. Why am I not seeing any significant change when previewing the clip?

2. Which would be better to use?

3. Can they be used on the same clip simultaneously?

4. Is there a link or location, etc., that will explain what each function is used for and the differences between the two?

Shake Reduction is the tool for removing camera shake. But it's not magic. It just identifies objects mid-screen and then uses Motion keyframes to keep those objects in the sme place as much as possible. A lot depends on the content of your video. As I said, it's not magic. It's worked very well for me taking shake out of video of me walking or driving toward an object. But it's not going to magically make every shaky shot look like it was shot with a Steadicam.

What does your footage look like and what results are you getting that your unhappy with?

Hi Steve -thanks for the info. I didn't mean to give the impression that I was unhappy. I was merely wondering what the gifference was between the two. I agree that the footage was horrible, but I just thought that either the motion tracker and/or the shake reduction would cure it. I just wasn't sure which function I should use. I'll snip the bad sections out of the video and try again. Just curious as to the difference between the two. Thanks again.

They are two different things.

Shake Reduction is for stabilizing hand held footage : it can do magic but it cannot perform a miracle.

Motion tracking is for attaching a graphics to a moving subject within the frame.
