Using Adobe Premier Elements I am trying to copy a video (Mpeg 4) from my gopro to a DVD that will play both on a computer and also a DVD player. No matter how many times I try the DVD will not play on both sometimes on the computer though. I always tick the Mpeg 4 box but I finish up with a VOB file or a VTS file. Anyone help?

It might also help if you described the process you're using to convert that MP4 to DVD. Copying it to a DVD won't work. You need to transcode the file.

I'm not sure where you're finding the option to "tick the MPEG 4 box". If you're burning a DVD, your only option is to output an MPEG2/VOB.

A DVD is more than just a movie on a DVD disc. It needs to be properly formatted as VOB files and usually navigation in order to play on a standard DVD player.

As I've said, I think you're taking the wrong steps to create a playable DVD. But I can't say for sure because you haven't described the steps you took to create your disc.

Ok then if I want a DVD to play on a computer and a DVD player what format do I need to save my video on and then send it to the DVD?

You need to output a DVD file and burn it to a disc.

What steps are you taking to create your video file?

My general process
1 - start a new project
2 - import my pictures and video files
3 - do any trimming and/or transitions
4 - use the share option to write an ISO as DVD output
5 - use Imgburn to write the ISO to disc

The DVD I create will play on computer and in a player at my TV (*)

(*) I have one very old player connected to an extra TV that will not play any home made DVD
