Pan and Zoom, PE 2023 freezes timeline play

I am on a tight deadline and editing a video with many clips -- all video. The first time I tried a pan/zoom on a short video clip (:20)  it caused the timeline to stop playing. I tried multiple times and tried deleting the clip and starting over, and it always causes the timeline play button to stop working. I am able to manually move the timeline play head (blue down arrow thingy) so the program is not crashed. I have read many posts from previous versions of PE but didn't find a solution to try. I tried rendering but it did not change. I have to close and reopen the program.

Would appreciate some suggestions! Pan and Zoom should work on video as well as still images, correct? Steve's demos seem to all use a still image so wanted to rule that out first. Next, I will try pan/zoom using Keyframe, but would like to know if there is an issue with the simple pan and zoom feature, or if I am missing something.

Thanks!

My system: PE 2023 on a desktop running Win 10, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor 3.80 GHz, 64 B RAM, Graphics Card: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT

PS:  Is there a list of known issues with PE 2023 so I can save some time problem solving this and any other future issues that may arise?

It is odd, but audio preview processing can bog down some systems.  Check the preferences for Audio Hardware, Default Input to "No Input".

After "No Input" there are other things to check.

Do you have project settings and footage that match?

What are the footage specifations and where did they come from?

Have you cleared the preview cache files with "Delete Rendered Files".

Have you tried reseting the preferences?

Have you tried turning OFF GPU acceleration?

Have you tried "Draft Quality/High Speed" for Timeline Render Quality?

Thanks for the list of things to check - I'll keep an eye on them if I run into more problems! On the issues related to system bogging down though, I think my system is powerful, and I am not having any similar issues with other effects. Rendering goes pretty quickly.

Thanks SO much!

Hi Bill,

Thanks, I made that change and did a test -- can't remember if it was the same clip (see note below) but pan and zoom worked. I'll try it on a few other clips, and will test turning on/off the audio setting to confirm if that was the issue.

(I wrote the post two days ago and realized today I hadn't actually posted and that was why I didn't get any responses 🙂  so I really appreciate your quick reply!
