Why don't I see an update while I have Premiere up on my screen? I've never had it lock up until the past few days. I looked up instructions to look for an update by clicking Ctrl+K ? but when I did that nothing happened. So then I opened task manager - I attached a print screen. Does that mean an update is running? I'm not sure that I ever updated it before. I thought I would just have to buy the next version.
Thank you,
Sharon

Here's an update on the day after my post. I can edit maybe 1 or 2 things and then the program stops working. I can save it. But when I move the head the image does not move or change. That update in the task manager screenshot now has fewer numbers so it looks like it isn't running? But that did not help the program not to freeze up. I'll include a print screen from today. Thank you.

I think there is something else wrong. I'm not sure, but I think the updater program is minor and runs in the background looking for potential updates.
Since you say that it has been running well until recently, my guess is that a Windows update may have caused some changes. One that sometimes comes up in this forum is Audio Hardware. Please go to Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware and select No Input on the Default Input drop down. It seems that in some computers the audio system starts taking up resources that can slow down Premiere Elements.

Thank you. I tried that and then rebooted, went back to the video and it acted the same. So I tried working on a new video. That one worked fine - so I'm guessing what I should do now is recreate the problem video one or two video clips at a time to see if I can figure out if it is one video clip in particular that is the problem.
Thank you for trying to help! (I see my updates are set to work automatically)

I agree. My guess is that there is a clip with a problem!
