I have downloaded and AVI file that VLC shows has a subtitle track in it. ffmpeg is unable to remove that track (and I am not talking about burned-in subtitles). No other app that I can lay my hands on shows the subtitles. Can Premiere 14 show subtitles, and, if so, where is it?
[title edited for clarity by mod]
Short answer: elements does not support subtitling/closed captions in any way.

I have determined that the subtitle track is actually a EIA-608 stream which is included (but not hardcoded) into the video stream. I am still trying to find a solution with ffmpeg to remove that stream/track.

I think it would help if you posted a link to the file (IF you could) you downloaded so others can check it out.
Silly question time (meaning you've probably tried it, but I'm asking just to make sure....) Have you tried right clicking on the video in the timeline and choosing enable?

"Enable" is checked on. But, my basic question is where inside Premiere do I look for this closed captioning?

Are you talking about Premiere Elements 14 or some version of the full Premiere Pro program. If you are talking about Elements, I can't imagine that you could edit out a sub-title track with it. If you are talking about Premiere Pro or some earlier version, you should ask your question on the Premiere Pro Forum. If you wish to confirm my opinion about Premiere Elements, you can do so on the Premier Elements Forum. (This is the Photoshop Elements Forum).

Don't think I understand the question and/or concern. The software product I am asking about within the app is called "Adobe Premiere Elements 14". It came as the "video editor" for Photoshop Elements 14. And, I did not ask how to "edit out" the subtitles - I am asking if I can see them and, if so, where?
