I recently bought a new computer, specifically because my 4 year old computer could not seem to handle Premiere elements. I bought the following, because I read that this type of processor was good for editing.
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900 2.00 GHz
Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable)
Device ID C1629DE7-3753-460B-9D40-B5728DC66286
Product ID 00355-62028-64480-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060Ti
However, I'm still finding that after filling up about 5-6 tracks with audio and video, I start to get considerable freezing. I press play, but either nothing happens, I get only audio with the timeline bar not moving, or sometimes I just don't get audio. It seems to work better if I haven't made any changes over the pasdt s everal minutes, but even then, it often doesn't work when I click on the Play button
I'm starting to think that perhaps it was not my previous processor at fault, but that Permiere Elements is made for editing home videos with 1 or 2 tracks, but not more involved ones. Or perhaps, and hopefully, I don't have my settings optimized.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Are you using the studio driver?
nVidia Driver Downloads https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
-for all Adobe programs use the STUDIO driver, not the GAMING driver
-To achieve the highest level of reliability, Studio Drivers undergo extensive
-testing against multi-app creator workflows and multiple revisions of the top
-creative applications from Adobe to Autodesk and beyond

I don't know if that one is included, but I did read that Intel had problems with 'some' i9 processors

I don't do that, so have no ideas

Thank you, John Smith. I see that you gave me a link to download that driver. But I was thinking that it would be helpful if I could first find out which driver is already selected on my new computer. Can you suggest a way to do that. I DID search on that, but was not able to figure it out. I AM able to access my NVIDIA control panel, but it's not clear how to look for this info on that screen. I also went thru the Settings tab, but was not able to determine if I'm using the SD (Studio driver) version of NVIDIA.
Thanks again.

After writing the above note, I did go back to that site you sent me a link to. I did download the studio driver. Still not sure how to make sure which of the 2 drivers is chosen.
After the download was complete, it DID ask me to choose which driver I wanted. I DID choose the Studio Driver. So I guess I can assume this one is now in play.
Thanks again.

And today, when I go to the NVIDIA app that was installed as part of the process you recommended, and I choose, "Drivers," it DOES say that I have the Studio Driver installed. So, thank you.

Also what is the source of the video you are editing? Is it from a camcorder? Is it 1920x1080 or 3840x2160?

I'm not sure about the resolution numbers, but I'm using video from a Canon digitial SLR (EOS Rebel SL1)
Thanks.

Kind of important to know the specs of video because that more than anything can affect the program's performance. Open your video in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the report it generates and paste it to this forum.

Hi,
You said, Open your video in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the report it generates and paste it to this forum.
So, I go to MediaINFO. The homepage is just a running video, showing, I assume, what this program can do. So, I chose the "Demo" tab on the top right. But, I cannot see where I can upload any videos to this site. They have a Search box, but that seems to be for looking up Web content. They also have a "Browse" tab on the top right, but when I hit that, nothing happens. And I've done that several times.
I then went into Windows explorer and looked for one of the short videos I'm working with. I thought that I might be able to right click and "open with" MediaInfo. I couldn't. But when I did open with Media Player and found a tab called, Properties, I did see the following info:
Resolution: 1920 x 1088 Frame rate 29.97 Item type: mov Audio channels 2 (stereo)
Not sure if that will help. If not, I could use a few more tips on how to open one of my videos in MediaINFO
Thanks.

You don't upload to the site.
You download and install the MediaInfo app and then open your media file in it.

Then post a screenshot of the properties of your media in tree view:

I have trouble downloading that program. My program called, MalwareBytes doesn't let it in. I can instruct it to allow it, but it appears that downloading this program involves many small files that are each blocked by my Malware program. I tried to end task in Task Manager, but it only let me do that with 1 of the two Malware files. Did you get the info you needed from the numbers I sent you?
And, btw, I'm stil having problems running Premiere Elements. I thought that perhaps by making sure that the Studio Driver was engaged in NVIDIA, that it would improve things. I should say that sometimes I have no problem for 4-10 min. But then the unresponsiveness kicks in.
I guess if you don't find the following helpful, copied from above,
Resolution: 1920 x 1088 Frame rate 29.97 Item type: mov Audio channels 2 (stereo)
then I could get rid of Malware Bytes for awhile, or carefully try to copy each of the probably 6-10 file names to a field in MalwareBytes so it allows it to pass.
Thanks for your time.

Hi Steve Grisetti,
Was the info I furnished enough to answer your question? I'll copy it below.
Resolution: 1920 x 1088 Frame rate 29.97 Item type: mov Audio channels 2 (stereo)
If not, I can try again to open that link you sent me. As I had said, my Malwarebytes didn't want any part of that program. But I could probably work around it if necessary.
Thanks.

Hi Mr. Grisetti,
I was able to continue my project and finish it. I found that if I limited by editing time per day, then the freezing and stuttering would be less often. I also, of course, had to hit the render button relatively often.
I'm sorry if my case got too difficult or if I said anything that was off. Perhaps you felt that I was not willing to go the extra mile and download that program (MediaInfo) that you asked me to---so that I could then forward you the data that this program yielded. As i had said, my malwarebytes program would not allow me to download it. I could have bypassed it with trying to copy about 7 or 8 long files (including their pathways.) I did get back to you and asked if the following would suffice:
But when I did open with Media Player and found a tab called, Properties, I did see the following info:
Resolution: 1920 x 1088 Frame rate 29.97 Item type: mov Audio channels 2 (stereo)
So again, I would greatly appreciate if you could just tell me if the info in the above line tells you what you were looking for. If not, I'll try to download that MediaInfo again.
I say all of this because I'm looking for a way to avoid these problems when I do my next vido. I should add that with my last computer, when I went into the task manager while playing my video in Premiere Elements, I saw that my processor was at about 99%. With my new computer, the processor was running only at about 10-15%. So, at least I'm thinking that the processor speed is no longer the issue.
Don't know if people share their videos here, but I'll put down the link below. At least you might be able to see the complexity, at least as compared to a typical video that one might make for a BDay party.
Thanks again.
And, btw, I'm not asking for you to look at this video. If you've reached this sentence, you've probably already spent enough time.
I can't attach the song file. I'll just send a link.

John, Steve and Bob are all working to help. One thing that comes up occasionally that causes " freezing and stuttering" on some systems is an odd Preference setting. Go to Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware > Default Input and select "No Input". Apparently the audio processing can overload in some way that causes some computers to function very slowly.

Thanks, Bill. I just did that. Will see if that helps. Though, as I said, I won't be working on another project for several months.

What are the hard drives (how many, what kind, what is on each, what capacity, and how full)?

I'll try what you rec'ed about MediaInfo, in a little while.
But to answer your latest question. I have a 1 TB SSD, which has about 800 GB's free. Of course, my Premiere elements and photoshop programs are on there.
I also have a 2 TB hard drive, which only has about 300 GB on it (ie, about 1.6 TB free.)
I guess I should have furnished that info at originally.
Thanks.

Is your media on an SSD?

The 2 TB drive is an HDD. The SSD is 1 TB. My Adobe Premiere Elements is definitely on the SSD.

Wow. I just realized something. While, as I just said, my Premiere Elements program is on my 1 TB SSD, the place I save the files I am working with is on my slower 2TB HDD. That is, the files that end with the extension, "prel." I thought that was OK to do, and even recommended. But, perhaps that is a problem?
THanks

Those are project files, not sound/video media files... and I have NO idea how much work is 'ongoing' inside a project file... so you might try a new project and have everything on your SSD to see if that helps

Yes, I think that would be pretty easy to do. I'll certainly try that with my next video. Thanks.
