Re: Imported Creation Date does not match source file.

Hello - first time posting here - I'm having the same problem with my files, but on a Mac. I've already used a file metadata editor to populate the "Media Created Date" with the right one, but Premiere insists on importing them with a "system zero" date (in my case, 1-1-1970). It must be pulling it from some other date field but I can't find it. Anyone know of any solution for MacOS?

Hi @Terri341462115c6z and @Caelocide,

I received your question. Thanks for the info! Instead of the metadata panel, you might try opening up the project panel and expanding it with the "~" key. Right click on a column and choose > Metadata Display. In Metadata Display, search for "Creation Date" and select it. Click OK. See if the column now displays the correct creation date. This is how I usually sort by date in the Project panel. Let me know if that works for you or not.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi @Kevin-Monahan thanks for the reply! I'm using Premiere Elements 2022 (and am fairly new to it, having moved over to Mac from Windows only a couple of years ago, changing editing software when I did). It wasn't obvious where the "project panel" was so I did some Googling & it seems like this may be a Premiere Pro feature?? Or else, I'm missing something obvious in Elements. 🙂

I've tried sorting the files in the "Project Assets" window (after changing it to "List View" and the Creation Date there is showing 1/1/1970 (see attached). Yet the file system on the Mac shows these files with their proper dates.

I'm stumped! 😞

Hi @Terri341462115c6z,

Oh, you're using Premiere Elements? Let me move your post to that forum. This is the Premiere Pro forum.

Cheers,
Kevin
