Track Matte moves

New Here ,
Dec 11, 2021 Dec 11, 2021

Hope this makes sense....

I am trying to a have a title appear while scrolling up from the bottom but have it appear inside of the circle.  I have the circle black and white graphic on video track and I have used the track matte effect on the title track.  When I apply the motion to the title it also moves the track matte which is not what I want.  I want the Track matte to stay put and the text to scroll into the matte.  I am using a slightly older version of Premiere Elements but does anyone have any idea??  I can't figure it out for the life of me.

Thanks!!!

What you are seeing is correct.

Make your text and export.

Import this file, put it on the timeline and add the track matte.

Alternative make a color matte, draw a mask cirle from opacity and set it to invert.

Drop this over the text.

Thanks Ann.  But the same thing happens when I use a track matte on a graphic.  For some reason the matte moves along with the graphic.  I am using an older Premiere Elements so I don't have the ability to draw a mask circle like you can in Premiere Pro...  I think??

Yes, so do the same with the graphics as with the text.

Make the movement > export > import.

Mask are an Elements feature too.

Which version are you using? Did not say.

Alternative: draw a circle with the Title Tool then add the Invert effect (set to Alpha) to it.

Don't laugh... Elements 12.  LOL...

I have tried what you are suggesting but it doesn't seem to work.  Maybe I am doing something wrong.  I created this graphic... with a white top and a black bottom in Photoshop Elements.  I also imported this into Premiere Elements and exported a mp4 file of this static image.   But when I go to use it as a matte over another image that I want to scroll up and then reveal once it is in the white area it moves the matte right along with the graphic not yielding the result that I want.  I don't know if I am relaying correctly but I just can't seem to get it to work even doing what you suggested (I believe).

Is Mask and Elements feature in my version?

Now you are confusing me.

Does the matte need to move over a non moving image/text

Or does the text need to move under a non moving matte?

Either way you need to export the matte or the image that contains the movement.

Can you show me an example.

Sorry.  I want the matte to be stationary and have the text move up behind it.  I am trying to create a title that appears in the middle of the screen from behind an object like this..

DannyR302_0-1639277018683.png

This tutorial is in PRO so it doesn't really work exactly but I though I could create a similar effect by creating a stationary matte track and have the text move up into the visible area.  when I animate the text the matte moves right along with the text therefore never allowing the text to actually display.

Whatever help you can provide is greatly appreciated or if you can point me to a good tutorial you suggest that would be great too.    Thanks!

It was suggested I include a pic of my timeline.  The bottom track in the pic the middle track is the text that I want to scroll up and appear from behind the top track which is the png file with a black bottom and white top section...

I dont know any tutorials for Elements.

Your version of Elements is very limited, still dont know which one this is!!

As I said before you need to make the text file separately first.

Give it the scroll and export as a file with transparency/alpha channel (Quicktime with animation codec)

Import this file back into the timeline.

Superimpose over the png in track 2 add the track matte effect.

Drop the matte in track 3.

If your version has an adjustment layer you can use the crop effect to reveal the text.

I second Ann's suggestion. The Crop effect would be much better for creating this effect. So would the 4 point Garbage Matte.

Thanks for your help with this.  I do have Elements 12 which I know is old but does the job for me.  I did find a tutorial that showed me how to use the Crop and Transform effect to create the effect I was looking for.  In case anyone else is trying to do this I found this tutorial which is for Premiere Pro but works just as well in Elements:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uGVFAyMiqg&t=138s

I tried the garbage matte as suggested by Steve and that seeemed to work as well.  I will do some more work with track mattes to fully understannd how they work and when I can use them effectively.

Thanks again for all your help and suggestions.

PS - I will upgrade to the new version of Elements soon!!  LOL
