Hi, I have Premiere Elements 15 and I just bought myself a Gopro Hero 7.
My question is, how can I add my media files to my Premiere Elements.... at the moment I just keep on getting the message: This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed.
I thought maybe it wasn't working because the camera being new and the software oldish... so I downloaded the free trial of the premiere elements 2019 - but I got the same message....
what can I do to fix this?
You cannot edit GoPro7 footage only if you are on a Mac and have installed Elements 2019.
You need to convert with HandBrake first before bringing it into E15.

Most likely it's a video file using an unsupported codec, like HEVC H265.
To confirm this, open your video in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the report and paste it to this forum. Once we know what your GoPro footage specs are, we'll better be able to advise you.

I'm only a beginner, so I'm not sure what every thing means. But thanks so much for answering my question. I've gone with Ann's suggestion of handbrake.

Steve's right. It seems the out of the box default is H.265.
Anne is right, Handbrake will fix what you've recorded.
In the future, you can buy an Apple computer or use the GoPro Hero 7's other recording choices. Use the H.264 choice. The files will be a little larger, but quality will not suffer.
