Steps to Reproduce every single time:
1) take 2 clips on the timeline
2) apply Morph Cut between them

Not the highest probability, but quick to check and so knock off potential issues list.
Do you have an Nvidia GPU? If so, does going to software only in Mercury Acceleration fix the issue?
There is a buggy Nvidia game driver causing all sorts of freezing/crashes and odd behavior in effects using the GPU for the 14.8 public release. This might be the cause. Especially if going to software only fixes it.
If so, go to the Nvidia website and download/install the newer Studio driver doing a clean install. If need be, roll back one Studio driver version.

Have just checked that on software only option - does the same freezing
And though I've got installed the latest studio driver from Nvidia

Try rolling back one Studio driver. At least it's a quick test.
And I'll try and test this with Morph on my machine sometime today.

Checked the previous driver still the same
And in software render mode also so it's not the cause...
