Any idea when the Metadata & Timecode Burn-in effect will be moved into the public version? The obsolete timecode effect in version 15.4 does not interpret footage correctly and leads to a ton of extra mouse clicks to get the correct timecode settings.
No date has been established; there remains a good deal of "finishing up" work to do, on that effect.

Thanks Bruce. One can only hope sooner than later since the obsolete one is borked.

Has there been any update on this? I've tried looking around the web but don't see a mention of this effect.

Correct!
The Metadata effect is under active development; there are a few known issues we want to fix, before officially releasing it.
Until/unless all known bugs are addressed, any provided dates would be, at best, speculative.
We haven't put up the "rate the feature" poll yet, but I'm curious; based on your usage, do you think it's ready to release?

Instead of using timecode as an effect on the timeline, you may also add it as an effect in the Export stage. Twirl down the Effects section and select the Timecode Overlay.
Does that help in solving your issue?

Is there any update on when this will be made public? It has been a very long time and this is a vital effect for professional work in the TV and film industry

This feature has been in "beta" for years now, literally. Please can you sort it out? Thanks.

Hi Bruce,
Nothing personal but yes, sort it out. This feature has been in beta for what... 2.5 years now?? I'm pretty sure you guys don't have a team working on this feature full time for years on end. It's a matter of priorities and it feels like this feature is low on Adobe's priority list.
Your focus (not your focus personally but adobe as a company) has shifted heavily towards independent content creators and away from pros. I cut feature films on Premiere and have really been feeling the burn of this direction you have taken. Stuff like the export dialogue, missing AAF export option on M1 (and buggy AAF export overall), and stuff like metadata burn-in... For a pro this is stuff that can't wait; it's not an afterthought. I need it every single day and I need it to work well.
I still love the Adobe suite, but this direction might be what forces me back to AVID one day.

And yes AAF works now on M1 🙂 Yay!!!!

You're right; in that time, other work improving quality in other areas, and 'small' things (ha!) like reworking AAF to run on ARM, has superseded metadata effect work.
We want to finish it too, and have (for many weeks) prioritized completion of the metadata effect.
The ongoing delay has nothing to do with any 'shift in focus'; rather, we have become more demanding about initial release quality level, and are fixing the issues of which we're already aware.
We're very glad that many users have urged us to release the new metadata effect, as soon as possible. That's what we're doing...while maximizing initial quality.

Thanks for the honest reply Bruce! Really appreciate the transparency.
Happy to hear you guys are working on it. Sidenote: the ability to drag over the sources and targets left of the timeline - that one would reaaaally make my year 🙂
Cheers and good luck implementing all the 'small' (hah) stuff.

Thanks Bruce. Look forward to this effect releasing, even if its not perfect we really need it out in the wild in some shape or form!

So this effect is pretty good now - similar to Avid - but would be good to have some global controls - eg scale, position, text size, padding, styles, templates etc - suspect it'd be better taking its inspiration from essential graphics panel.
Also best if it can access any metadata.
