Can not import SRT files to Premiere Pro beta v25.6.0 builds 101,102, drops a generic error message!

Can not import SRT files to Premiere Pro beta v25.6.0 builds 101,102, drops a generic error message!

I have an extension called Kaps, that generates captions for videos.

BTW that is quite indifferent.

The thing: 1st I thought it's failure of Kaps, but no.  I tried with caption files and got the very same error.

So I saved the SRT in

- ANSI

- UTF8

- UTF8-BOM

- UTF16-BE-BOM

- UTF16-LE-BOM

encodings, but none of them can be importd in the Premiere Pro project.

The error message says: "The importer reported a generic error." (see the attached screenshot). 😞

Thank you for your feedback - just for clarification - did the import of these SRT files work in any other previous version?

Would it be possible to provide the SRT or samples like the first few lines to us to reproduce the problem?

I just tested this with an existing srt, works fine.

I dragged the srt file from explore direct in project panel.

After that I could drag it in a timeline.

file setting srt  Windows CRLF  UTF-8 with BOM

Thank you for the additional details - i still think we would either need the whole file or at least a part of it to diagnose what is going wrong.

@x3DGime,

Win 11, Beta 25.6.0.102. No problem importing srt. I used the Text panel/captions tab, import from file. I could also drag srt to the project panel.

The error you reported occurs for many reasons.

Hi,

Yes, in previous versions and builds it worked fine ofcourse.

Now I tested it on a MacbookPro (macOS 26.0.1)

Premiere Pro beta v25.6.0 beta build 98

The very same happened. 😞

@x3DGime,

Since it working for me (at build 102), this is difficult to troubleshoot without a file to test. I'll send you a PM.

After the BETA gone version 26.0.0 this is still NOT working, Premiere v26 BETA drops the very same error.

As I mentioned earlier in a reply to myself here, it's the very same on Windows AND on Mac ALSO.

Then I decided to clean...   So, on my Win10 computer I cleaned everything that is related with Adobe (first uninstalling ALL apps form CC desktop app, then using the cleaner tool as CC desktop app won't uninstall saying there are app installed while there were none...  so after that I manually deleted all Adobe related folders and files from the computer's storages AND also deleted ALL Adobe related everything in the regedit (registry editor).

So I purged everything...

Then I did a clean install, starting with installing the Adobe CC desktop app...

But the problem in the BETA (now it is version 26) is still there!

NOW I installed the "normal" (non-beta) verion (v25.5), and in this "normal" version it is working as it should: it finely imports the SRT.

And yes, when v25.5 was the beta it was working fine.

It went wrong with v25.6 beta, and the problem inherited into version 26 beta too!!!

I remember I swithced ON the "new masking".  Only this is the change that I now think that may be related with this problem.  I don't know why and/or how, it's just a ...  let's say, an intuition.

Can you try running your srt through an online srt validator and report back any errors or attach the srt file (eg via https://taoning2014.github.io/srt-validator-website/index.html)

Hi, @Alexander_DVA ,

Ofcourse yes.

I uploaded one of the SRT files.

I've got this error message:

"Parse Error: Invalid time stamp: 5.0 on line 2"

This is the beginning of the SRT file:

1
5.0 --> 7.620
Kedves vendégeim!

2
7.620 --> 9.300
Örülök nektek,

3
9.300 --> 10.440
hogy eljöttetek,

etc.

So, the line 2 is what the error message reports.  But why it is erratic?

And why it can be finely imported to Premiere v25.5 "normal" version (and when 25.5 was beta it also worked) and not in v25.6 beta and 26.0 beta?

Thank you for the details, that srt uses non standard compatible timecode that is now rejected by premiere pros srt parser

@x3DGime,

Interesting.

"Proper" SRT format for your excerpt would be:

1
00:00:05,0 --> 00:00:07,620
Kedves vendégeim!

2
00:00:07,620 --> 00:00:09,300
Örülök nektek,

3
00:00:09,300 --> 00:00:10,440
hogy eljöttetek,

And that imports to PR Beta 26.0.0.09

But, as you say, the "wrong" versions import to PR 25.5.0 but NOT to PR Beta 26.0.0.09 (generic error): the incomplete timecode (5.0 vs 00:00:05.0), the timecode with a period before milliseconds rather than a comma, and the timecode with the single zero for milliseconds.

No idea what could have changed. But there have been outstanding bugs that had issues, so I wonder if some work has been done on srt import.

😲

So...  what is the standard then?

This is generated by an SRT generator extension called Kaps, that is AFAIK the only one solution for Hungarian language speech to be captionized.

Oh...  Thanks a lot!

I have notified the Kaps extension developers about the problem, and they need to fix it quickly, because they are short on time, as 25.5 is currently the "normal" version, and v26 is already in beta, so 25.6 or even v26 could be "normal" at almost any moment.

I would report the result of the srt validator to the author of the extension. Fixing this to pass validation should be easy
