Help with simple video edits

I've attached a video that I need to edit on Premiere Rush but I'm having a lot of trouble. 

I create a new project and get the video on there. I need to whiten the background and wondering what's the best way to do this?

I also need to add a title. I've been clicking the 'T' box and add a title. Once I do this I'm not able to play the video and I'm not able to change the size of the text and the wording. I can see where I can edit all this but I can't change anything??
