Support iPhone JPEG File Format

Community Beginner ,
Jun 17, 2024 Jun 17, 2024

Half my content is unusable in Adobe Rush because I get error messages saying the file type is not compatible. My camera settings are configured to most compatible and the file type is indeed JPEG. For how reature rich Adobe products are, Rush should support ALL file types used by Android and iPhone users. Why pay for an app that doesnt do what it claims? How do I fix this problem with any file conversions?

Hello @Teran38095320e11b,

I'm not sure why you can't import an image via your iPhone. I have an older iPhone XS Max, and it works just fine. What kind of iPhone are you running? If it is a newer one, are you shooting in any of the advanced modes? Have you tried any other formats? That could be the issue since the Rush importer has not been updated for some time. Let the community know if a workaround might solve the problem for now. Sorry for the issue.

Thanks,
Kevin

I have an iPhone 15 Pro, and the only 2 modes are "high efficiency" and "most compatible". The high efficiency mode definitely causes Rush import problems because the file type is HEIC and is an Apple-developled format to save on memory. The most compatible mode takes pictures in the JPEG format which "should" work in Rush.

I learned about all this when my default setting auto updated to HEIC and I wanted to make a stop-motion video with ~250 HEIC photos that Rush could not import. It took me a few hours to figure out a way to convert from HEIC to JPEG, but the preventative solution was to switch to the most compatible mode. And I've made a few videos since without any issues. Which is why I'm frustrated this go around, the Rush app should definitely be able to import JPEG images.

Is Portrait Mode considered advanced? All these pictures with taken with Portait Mode. I'm hoping to avoid spending hours converting most of my photos just to use the app.

What will it take to get Adobe to update the import process?

Hi @Teran38095320e11b,

I'm glad to hear that you found a workaround for your issue. Nothing in the portrait aspect ratio should give you any trouble; it's more about the HEIC format, which came out after Rush was fully developed.

I'm not on the product team but a moderator here, so I'm not sure. You may want to check out Project Violet to see if the formats are supported there. It's an experimental app being developed currently, so it may provide the format support you are looking for while we await updates from Rush.

I hope the information helps.

Thanks,
Kevin

Sorry if I was unclear in my explanation. My project a few months ago was the stop motion video with only HEIC pictures. And it was that painful experience that taught me to adjust my iPhone camera settings to make my phone take pictures in the JPEG format.

My current project has only JPEG portrait mode pictures and is not resolved. I am still trying to figure out why Rush cannot import my JPEG files.

Can you get someone from the Rush team to respond in this thread? Or someone else who knows the Rush import process better? Because if your answer is for me to buy/use another product then I'd like to get my money back that went towards Rush.
