Video previews are squished even without Optimized Clips

Just installed Premiere Rush 2.10.0 (Build 30) and was trimming clips from a video. Suddenly my video preview for all but the last clip got squished on either side, making the video unviewable and uneditable. If I play with the transform horizontal/vertical sliders it will return to its normal aspect ratio, but even if I turn off the Basic and Advanced transform options the issue remains. There are three other similar posts from people over the past three years, most of whom mention Optimized Clips. It looks like Optimized Clips aren't turned on by default, and I didn't even know about the setting but the problem persists. Closing/reopening Rush does not help, and like I said this is the very first project I've made in Rush on this PC. Screenshot attached.

Windows 11 22H2

Core i7-12700K CPU

32GB RAM

NVidia 2070 Super, driver 537.58

Hi @thedoc31,

I am glad to hear the issue is behind you and that the advice helped. I cannot answer your question about the thumbnail cache as I am not an engineer or on the product team.

You said that you crashed the application and reported it. Thank you for that. It seems very odd that your audio is affected by the installation of the NVIDIA driver. Was it the studio driver or the game-ready one? You may want to try resetting your preferences. If that still malfunctions, you can try performing a clean reinstall of the studio driver and check the results. I hope that may shake things loose.

I'll let the team know how you feel. Sorry for the frustration. Have a good weekend.

Thanks.

Hi Kevin - Turns out my audio somehow was locked in Exclusive mode with Qobuz ASIO and it didn't release it until I forced Windows to a different default output device and back. So fortunately, red herring for the NVidia driver. Just an unfortunate coincidence at the same time as the Rush issue.

Hi @thedoc31,

Got your message. See if deleting the cache files helps. They are located in your preferences. Report back as to the results. I hope  this works for you.

Thanks,
Kevin

Looks like that resolved the issue. Seems silly to have to do that on what amounts to a brand new install though. Perhaps the thumbnail caching is too aggressive?

I did run into a crasher this morning when I tried to repro the issue and reported it, and now I have no sound output even though the correct output device is selected and the only change I made was installing the latest NVidia drivers (551.23) and other programs like Qobuz are outputting fine.

As much as I like the simpler interface of Rush, I don't feel like I can trust it.
