Question

Where are files stored on my mac? (new Feb 2024)

Hi there. I see lots of people asking the question but no answers.

I just started today so I am not affected by the end of cloud syncing.

I would like to know where on my mac the project files are stored so that I may back them up.

Thanks!

Anne.

i think i lost all my rush files. now i've got 4 days at sea coming from alaska fishing.  lots of footage but the edit is too complicated for rush and i see premiere pro doesnt work on 2012 macbooks without big sur.  i guess im late to the updates.  loved it when you can use the old premiere versions.  it only costs 200-300 for a mac with big sur but they dont sell them where im at.  i dont want to edit the whole thing and not have a project file.

Hello @raftster,

I read your note. Thank you for the message. Much appreciated! You lost your Rush file? The file is automatically saved in the background when closing the app. The changes are there when you reopen the app. That didn't happen?

Let me know if you can access a computer with Catalina or Big Sur. I may be able to furnish you with an older version. Just send me a note.

Sorry for the hassle. Take care!

Thanks,
Kevin

Help! Rush kept crashing upon startup so i reset my preferences and now all of my projects have disappeared. I have lost MONTHS of work. Please tell me there's a way to recover these files!

Hey @CNGNY,

That sounds frustrating. I hope we can help you. I'd contact support for such a thing.

Contact our agents: https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html

The chat pod is in the lower right corner.

Respond, and click through until you get a live agent.

Ask for the video queue (M-F 7AM-7PM PST).
Insist on it if agents who are not on the video queue team try to troubleshoot.
The proper agents will control your computer and, hopefully, get your projects working again.

Let the community know what happens.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks for the quick response. I re-booted without reconfiguring preferences and suddenly all my projects came back, thankfully. I then switched off the pre-render option and the app is now a lot more stable.

Wonderful! Glad to hear it.

Take Care,
Kevin

Hello @amckinnell,

Thanks for the question.

Rush doesn't create project files like Premiere Pro or After Effects. Sorry for the confusion. Rush projects are created in an internal database on your Mac or PC, but they aren't user accessible, so you cannot expressly back them up. Backing up your system to Time Machine or similar should be sufficient.

The product team is aware of this issue, so I hope they can come up with a better solution for editors like yourself soon. I apologize for the frustration.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

thank you for the reply. It is good to know that at least time machine will be picking up the files and backing them up. But I still need to know where they are so I could restore them if necessary. Unless I am restoring my entire computer, which I would only do if there was some catastrophic failure. When I buy a new computer, I don't restore from Time Machine.

Even though the files are not user accessible, may I know where they are in case I ever need to restore them from Time Machine?

Thank you.

Anne.
