PDF Output inRH 2022

Hi,

I have a project through which I generate Frameless Output. Now, we require PDF output. There is an issue in generating the entire pdf at once. When I select the entire toc to generate pdf, it gets stuck at "Transforming into PDF pages". When I divide the toc into a smaller part, it gets generated. The observation here is that if the toc is around 300-400, then it gets generated, but when it is more, it is not generated. My PC is an i5 with 16GB of RAM, is my PC not able to handle it, or is it RoboHelp?

Are you running the latest patch of RH2022 (I think it's still #3 as of Feb 2024)? Could it be that your project has some topic pages that the PDF creation process is racking up on? I haven't heard of any limit to the number of TOC items or topics that can be PDF'd.

As @Jeff_Coatsworth has indicated, there isn't a specific limit. It's more about what's in the topics, lots of images etc. You have 300/400 topics that will transform to a much larger number of pages. Quite a large document.

You have found by splitting the output into two, the PDF gets generated whereas with all the topics it doesn't. That does point towards the machine not coping.

How long are you leaving it to run? Have you tried running it overnight or could you install RoboHelp on a more powerful machine just to try it?

Let us know how you get on?

Yes @Peter Grainge I've tried to keep it running overnight too. You might be right that it cannot copy all the images because my project has many images too. I saw in the View log, that the error says "The "path" argument must be of type string. Received type boolean (false)"

I think that response has been posted before. Search this forum using the lower search field, it's specific to the RoboHelp posts.

Let us know if that helps.

After that it may be a question for Support. See https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/enterprise-support.other.html#robohelp for your Adobe Support options. The email link tcssup@adobe.com is recommended as it reaches a team dedicated to Technical Communication Suite products including RoboHelp.

I found another thread but that ended up going to Support. Unfortunately the poster didn't come back with the answer.

Follow the Support link I gave you and see if they can help.

Please come back and let us know how it was resolved.

Hi @Peter Grainge / @Jeff_Coatsworth My company IT team is asking us to install OpenJDK as Java now needs to be licensed for commercial purposes, my question here is if pdf generation will work in OpenJDK or not.

According to the Oracle site (https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase/jdk-faqs.html) the JRE 8 version is still free for individuals and companies to use (see https://www.oracle.com/downloads/licenses/javase-license1.html). I suspect because RH's use of Java 8 to generate PDFs is considered an "authorized use" of the product.
I suggest you contact the RH folks for any clarification - see https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/enterprise-support.other.html#robohelp for your Adobe Support options. I'd recommend using the tcssup@adobe.com e-mail address as it reaches a team dedicated to Technical Communication Suite products including RoboHelp.
