If an AI-generated image is as much an illustration as a photo - what do you choose?
When the difference is subtle, I go with illustration.

It's purely my own opinion and preference, but I'd choose illustration.

An AI Generated image is not a photograph. Here is the definition of the word photograph:

Jill - you can upload either as a photograph or illustration.

Yes I understand that. Your question was not clear. Are you asking which file type to use and when for your Gen AI assets?

Sometimes with AI images you can be in doubt whether it looks like a photo or an illustration. It's a balance.

If it doesn't look like it could have been captured with a camera, it's an illustration. I don't think a Moderator would reject a photo-realistic image submitted in the Illustrations file type; but they probably would reject something that didn't look like a photograph if submitted in the "photos" file type. For instance, a fanciful unicorn, no matter how sharp and clean it looked, cannot be a photo. Nor can a cat wearing a fedora and smoking a cigar...

As with many aspects here, there is no hard limit. You need to see that case by case, but if you are unsure about that, do as @daniellei4510 says. It will probably fit in illustrations better than photos.

I agree.

Adobe has already stated that AI-Images or photos with AI-generated objects are to be uploaded as images.

@RALPH_L :
images can be uploaded as photos, if they look like photos. I suppose that was what you wanted to say.
I don't think that any asset will get refused because it was slightly of for photos and was submitted to photos. You may be in trouble if many images that clearly belong to the illustration section are posted as photos. Fot AI assets, you won't suffer the inverse, so when in doubt simply submit ass illustration.
As a rule of thumb: anything that you could do with a camera too is a photo. Anything else an illustration.

I don't know if you have the experience, but with some AI-generated images it can be hard to know the difference.

No doubts: photos.
Doubts: Illustrations.
Easy and straightforward. No harms done.

Along similar lines, two or more actual photos composited in Photoshop stops being a photo and becomes an illustration. That said, there are the occasional photographers who conceive and produce very complicated and possibly expensive setups that may be taken with a camera to produce a single photo. Even then, a moderator wouldn't know that, and should still be labeled as an illustration.

If I insert an object into a picture, It will stay a photo, If I insert glowing eyes. it becomes an illustration. The limits are floating.

Agreed, though I was referencing images more along these lines, when they start taking on a surrealistic style. Inserting an object that fits logically into a photo would certainly remain a photo.
