Hello, Adobe Stock Asset - #644474598 - I have purchased and tried opening this Asset in both Ps and Ai - the file opens but I'm unable to access - select - the individual scrolls in the JPEG file to then export each scroll individually and use in documents. If anybody can help and advise me how to achieve this I would be most grateful. Thank you.

As you are using the JPEG file, You will need to do some Photoshop work to isolate the background and then cut out or crop the part you want to select.

Masking can be made easily, by going to “channels” and Ctrl/Command clicking one of the channels. As it is a black and white picture, I would assume all of them to have a perfect black and white image.

This selects the white part of the image.

You need to inverse the selection.

You switch to the layers panel. And you add this selection as mask.

In the image, the different sways are now on a transparent background.

You only need to select (rectangular selection is OK here) and copy and paste them where you need them.

If you have Illustrator, however, you should download the Illustrator file. Select a sway in Illustrator and copy past into Photoshop as a smart object. That will ensure that you can scale the asset to any size you want, without loss of resolution/detail.

If the asset downloads as EPS, you should also load that EPS file into Photoshop instead of the JPEG file. The detail resolution will be better.

As a side note: This is a Photoshop/Illustrator question, less a stock question. I do not know your level of knowledge in Photoshop/Illustrator, but I suspect that you are a beginner. If you need further advice, I will move this to the Photoshop forum for a better pool of experts.

Hi Amabo, thank you so much for your clear and excellent guidance. You are right. I am a green beginner. Accessing the individual scrolls is a lot harder than I thought it would be. The JPEG file was the only file from Adobe Stock that I could download after purchasing license. I followed your instructions, but, after multiple attempts, have failed to save the individual scrolls to individual files of any format, not to mention export and use in a print file. You have been most generous with your time and assistance. I'll pop over to the Photoshop forum to see if someone can help me with exporting these individual scrolls.  Thanks again. Most appreciated!

Sorry, yes, they are unavailable as vector. I didn't look correctly.

You might try Select > Color Range and experiment with "fuzziness" to select and extract the scrolls. If the resolution of the image is high enough, it might work out for you.

Hi Amabo and Daniellei4510, thank you both for your assistance. I have had success! I managed to save the individual scrolls into files and export, using the crop function. Happy at this end. Appreciate all!

You are welcome.

Using only crop (or select and copy-paste) is OK as long as you do not need to paste the scrolls with a transparent background because your background has a different colour than white.

Save your new files as PNG or TIFF or Photoshop, to avoid the JPEG compression. Even that JPEG files can produce high-quality assets, every generation of new saving adds to the compression artefacts. So JPEG should exclusively be used for the final result of a composition, if other considerations (like preservation of the layers in the final output) are not relevant..
