Substance Designer crashes on launch

Community Beginner ,

Hello from Ukraine!:)

I have an issue with SD 15 - it started to crash on loading the project.

Yesterday I worked on a several projects, and all was well. Then, today I tried to open SD (I tried my projects, and even blank new scene, doesn't matter), and it crashes on loading.

After some tests I discovered that this is caused by rasterizer renderer initializing. If I disable 3d view before loading the project, I can use Designer, move and connect nodes and see 2D outut, all works as before. But if I initialize 3d view (no matter - using rmb on Output node or from window>new 3d view), it shows me black 3d view for a second and then crashes.

I even can't switch to OpenGL, even if I set OpenGL as default renderer in settings, it still tries to initialize Rasterizer first (why?).

The issue is I've already updated all my important projects to 15 version so I even can't open them in older versions of Designer. I tried 14 version, it works well with OpenGL even on heavy graphs (because we don't have the rasterizer there).

Funny thing that I've made zero changes to my PC configuration or it's software since yesterday, those were just generic routine days with working on textures, nothing else. But somehow it started to crash.

My PC specs in short:

Ryzen 5 3600

RTX 3080

48 GB RAM

Designer installed on SSD

What I've tried:

- Completely uninstalling and re-installing SD

- Updating Graphics Driver to the latest version

- Switching to Studio driver

- Changing default renderer to OpenGL in settings (it still runs Rasterizer first)

- Clearing Designer scene preferences in Windows Registry and disconnecting second monitor

I'm ready even to fully re-install my OS if it will help, but I'm not sure if it will.

What else should I try?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much for the tip, it helped! For guys with the same issue: I downloaded Reshade installer (with full add-on support) from their website, installed it for Designer (manually selected the path and exe) and this somehow fixed the crash. Now I can load my projects and work as before.
I'd never thought this is reshade related issue and was really ready to reinstall the OS.
Thank you thank you thank you❤️❤️❤️

Hello,

Thank you for the swift reply! I have found the crash report, and interstingly the error appear to involve a 'ReShade64' library used by the ReShade post-process injector. It is possible that ReShade tries to inject a post-process into Designer's 3D View, and that could trigger a crash.

Can you try disabling ReShade before using Designer with the OpenGL or Rasterizer renderer?

Best regards.

Hi!

Until we figure out why the rasterizer is crashing on your machine, this "- Changing default renderer to OpenGL in settings (it still runs Rasterizer first)" caught my attention... it should not be the case.

Do you have multiple projects in your preferences ? if so, make sure you set the default rendrer in the last project in the list:

On top of @Nicolas Wirrmann's relevant point, please also make sure to report the crash using the crash report window that appears when the crash occurs.

Enter your email address so I can find your report more easily and include a link to this thread to confirm that crash report is for this exact problem when I examine it.

Thank you for your patience!

Hi! Thanks for replying!
I checked, OpenGL is chosen as default renderer, and Designer tries to use it:

So my assumption about Rasterizer is wrong, but SD still crashes though. I re-installed latest Nvidia drivers this morning (clean installation) but still no success.
Also noticed that system requirements for SD 15 are like Windows 10 22H2 - mine Win 10 is 20H2. Could it be the issue? But the thing is I've already used SD 15 for more than month and it worked perfectly with no problems, only few days ago it started to behave like this.

I've sent the crash report - my email in grinjarik3@gmail.com
