Hi, I want to enquire if a mobile GPU with 8GB VRAM is good for 3D rendering and animation for a smooth workflow... Eyeing the 3070 ti with 8GB VRAM on i9 12th Generation. I am having trouble to understand what spec of graphic card should I look for my laptop for animation, 3D. I am learning both but I am aiming to do client work on it as well that helps me with faster TAT as it will be my main system. I don't and will not have a desktop until 3-4 years.. so to understand it in that terms will it suffice animation like this without crashing or slowing down? (OR ELSE I am going with i9 13th gen 4080 12gb VRAM costs more but definitely future proofed.)

You can render using a laptop with a modern GPU, which includes both the RTX 3070ti and the RTX 4080. However the issue with laptops can be twofold. First cooling, a laptop does not have the same cooling in terms of airflow that a desktop has so both the GPU and CPU can be subject to throttling (i.e. slowing down) if they get too hot. Second, a laptop is not easiliy upgradable in the way a deskop is, so if you find your projects start to run out of VRAM it is not a simple matter of swapping to a different GPU with more VRAM. Therefore, depending on your project requirements the RTX4080 may be more future proof.

All that said, both the devices you mention above meet the current requirements for Substance Designer and Substance Painter.

Thank you, I do understand how much better a desktop is but I can't buy it for atleast 3 years, so I need something that's able to handle everything smoothly. 3070 ti is a great card, but I feel the 8GB VRAM  will be limiting. I am not sure.. I have just started to learn after effects and blender. In terms of learning it's great but after an year or so when I need it for professional projects, I fear  that it wil lag. Though the price difference is substantial and somewhere it does not feel okay to invest this much in a laptop.. I would like to undersstand how long can a laptop usually last ? I have never purchased gaming laptops before so very clueless. I saw these that fit my budget. Your help shall be valuable.
