Trying to get Brunt Wood Pattern

Hello,

I spend two days trying to learn how to create brunt wood patterns like this following image.

I've notice creating variation brick like pattern with "zig-zag" edge isn't easy as I thought after I've used or combne node with tile generator/sampler/random, cell 2 and 4, shapes, splatter, distance and etc.

Can anyone give some suggestion, tips or etc on which pattern node to begin with?

Awesome! Thank you Dave. This will be sufficient to get me started. I will share some results after completed few experiments.

Regards,

Arthur

After spending on and off for a month, I've finally managed to get burn pattern I wanted. (Perhaps not too perfect, but its staisfactory). While at It, I've learned a lot about node which build my confidence for future projects. This wouldn't have happened if it weren't for you guys. Thank you!

Hello @aprather51,

If you have a subscription to an Adobe Substance 3D offer, you may use your allocated credits to procure the Burnt wood material in our Substance 3D assets library. The Substance 3D file (SBS) is available for this material, which lets you examine the graph generating it.

I can provide some pointers on a possible way to get started, the reply will just take some time. Feel free to reach out to our vibrant and talented community on our Discord server to ask for tips about producing this material.

Best regards.

Hi Luca,

Thank you for the reply, This Burnt Wood asset look awesome. Unfortunately, I don't have subscription or allocated credits with Adobe at this time, Maybe one day.

Collecting pointers from you would be good enough, I only need to understand how to get variation-uneven pattern and "zig-zag" edges with tile generator/sample nodes or some kind techiques that I haven't yet learned.

I will look into discord and see if I can find some infomation or help. Once again, thank for the reply.

Much regards,

Arthur

Hi

Try a tile generator with random scaling, offset and rotation. Follow that by warp and slope blur (highlighted in red block below). It should get you started
