a paint layer change applies to all existing paint layers

Hello
In Adobe Substance 3D Painter software, when I create a new paint layer and make changes in the Material section, those changes are applied to all existing paint layers.
Is there a way to prevent this situation so that a change in one paint layer does not change the settings and materials of the other paint layers?

  1. Version of the app : 9.0.0.2
  2. Platform and OS version :  Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5029263)

Hi @hamid 512,

Thanks for the question.

This the expected behavior. It is not the Layers that are changing their properties, but the Paint tool. The layers aren't link to the brush properties, and there isn't a saved custom brush for each layer.

A workaround to keep the properties would be to use Fill Layers with masks, in order to only paint with a common brush in the mask, and keep the special properties in the Fill Layer.

Best regards,

I've been using Painter for 3 years now and this is still one of the things that bug me the most to be honest😅 Why isnt there just an option to keep the current settings on that Paint Layer. It would make things so much easier because i dont want to always have to make a Fill Layer with a Mask to work around this problem. I know there are Tool Presets which you can create but its the same level of inconvenience if you always have to go to the brush library and search for another Tool... Is there anything in the works to get an option like this?

I'm afraid not. You can add the tool preset to your favorites. This way, it will be at the top of your library. This might help a little bit. (RMB > Add to favorites)
