amd driver timeout when doing anything

New Here ,
Oct 11, 2023 Oct 11, 2023

to preface I have:

AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX

AMD Radeon RX 6800M GDDR6

unfortunately, every time I attempt any action in Substance Painter, even something as simple as a fill layer, the program freezes and I get this pop-up.

I've tried increasing the cash budget to 2000 MB to no effect and I can't seem to find any solution online.

any advice is appreciated.

Hi Ray,

First of all, I advise you to follow this official tutorial regarding Timeout.

If this doesn't help, try to update the GPU driver, and if this doesn't help either, you can still try to deactivate the Sparse Virtual Texturing (Edit > Settings > General > Sparse Virtual Texturing > Hardware support acceleration).

Keep me updated.

Evening Cyril,

I have changed the tdr values and disabled spares visual texturing. however, I seem to be running into the same issue. Although the timeout popup doesn't show up any more substance still freezes and even when I wait 15 minutes for it to compute nothing changed.

I've been texturing on a 4k bake, so I tried to hide all other materials besides the one I'm working on. That helped but not every time, now whenever I'm working on a material or smart material it seems that at random after one or few actions the program freezes.

Thanks in advance.

I think there's either an issue with the GPU, or an issue with the project optimization. You could check the GPU activity in the Task Managers (Ctrl + Shift + ESC), and see if there's something unusual happening.

Additionnaly, it's worth checking our dedicated page regarding performances, or you can send me the .SPP file at cdellenbach@adobe.com if you want me to take a closer look.
