How to mirror a layer after it's painted

Hi,

I was wondering, is it possible to mirror a layer after it's been painted? I have accidentally painted several layers on one side of my model without mirroring turned on, and now wish to flip those strokes over to the other side also. Is there any way to do this? I've tried adding a Mirror Filter to each layer, but it doesn't work and acts strangely, almost as if it's expecting my UVs to be perfectly symmetrical as well, which they're not, as the model was packed arbitrarily; i.e the UVs are the same on both sides, but not laid out symmetrically.

Appreciate any thoughts on this.

Thanks,

Seán

I'm having the same problem. The mirror axis is stupidly in UV space rather than world space.
Is this just a limitation of the filter, or is there a way of changing this?

Hi @Seán22050512wipo,

Thanks for your patience.

The most common and practical workflow is to activate the Symmetry mode before starting to paint, but obviously, we sometimes realise the layer needs a mirror effect after the work is done.

Unfortunately, it's complicated to mirror a layer afterwards. The Mirror Filter works with UVs (as you saw), therefore it simply add an axis on your square UV set. You could try to play a little bit with the axis mode/offset to get what you need, or you could also duplicate your layer and add a Tranform Filter to move/rotate/scale your duplicated layer anywhere your want on your UV set.

Have a nice day,

Hi Cyril, and thanks for responding. Unfortunately, that's not really a soltion that can be used for auto unwrapped UVs, do you know, is there a plan to change this in the future to use the World Space? Or add the option to use it?

Hi  @Sean28714179r3iw,

I am personally not aware of such a plan, but let me consider this thread as a suggestion and bring it up to the team.

Best regards,

How is this not a feature yet?  You can't transform a shape in substance painter in 2024?

Export your color map>make your transform in photoshop>reimport into substance on the top layer>Mask out everything but what you needed.

That's not exactly what Sean was looking for. You can obviously use a Transform filter in Substance Painter.

Hmm. Still nothing. adobe just make nothing to their users.
As always.
Good to know.
No useful improvements.
You want to mirror in world space?
No. Just give us your money and you get back absolutly nothing.

I have a paint layer and I want to flip it on the x axis. Tried everything I know. The major problem now is that the way I did it before was to open the texture map in photoshop and flip it but the seam cuts right at the centre of the area I want to flip and I can't flip that perfectly plus it's angled. How do I fix it. Any solution would be awesome cause it's quite urgent.
