Question

SP 8.3.1 build 2451 exporting black base color textures

Greetings-

I'm trying to export a pretty simple texture set from my work in SP. When I try to do so (using the Unreal 4 (SSS) packed preset - the Base Color textures are always black. I've attached images of the export settings for [Global] and one of the texture sets (both texture sets have the same settings), and of the texture files themselves.

SP has been working fine; I've only recently changed video cards - would this cause the issue??

Hello @XercesCorrupt,

This is because the SSS is stored through the Alpha channel of the Base Color. Therefore, if the SSS is set to 0 (full black) and considering the Alpha channel from a .PNG is usually read as the Opacity, the .PNG will be displayed as fully transparent, and be black in your explorer.

That being said, the file still contains the Base Color in the R, G and B channels of the map. You can plug it in your Unreal engine shader, and it should be displayed properly.

Regards,
