Tile generator Blending Mode stuck on Add

New Here ,
May 30, 2022 May 30, 2022

I'm using the Tile Generator in Substance Painter (not Designer), and one of the settings allows you to change the blending mode of the tiles. It is on 'Add' by default, so when two tiles are overlapping it adds their values together, but changing it to 'Max' or 'Add Sub' seems to have no effect. The tiles appear to still be blended using 'Add'.

Am I missing something or misunderstanding the setting? Or is this a bug? I'm using the latest version of painter.

Thank you

The blending setting appears to affect how the generated pattern blends with the background level (rather than how individual tiles blend). Change that level and you will see a difference in the blend modes.

Hi Dave, I think you're right. I still don't seem to get a difference between the 'Add' and 'Max' blend modes, but 'Add Sub' does give a different result. It must be the blending with the background.

Do you happen to know if there is a way to change how individual tiles blend with each other? Seems like it would be a useful feature for when your tile generator is driving a height map.

Thank you for your help!

Hi,
You could create a tile generator suiting your needs by exposing the needed parameter in substance designer.

Kind Regards,

Geoffroy SC
