What to use

I want to create space ships in Blender and use painter to the do the texturing but I'm unclear if I need Stager or not to do that? I also see there's a plugin? Is that needed as well? Do I need the collection bundle, or I can get away with the cheaper subscription if I create the models in Blender and do the texturing with painter?

You don't need Stager for that. Stager is for laying out a scene and rendering.

My workflow with Blender 3D is :

1. Model in Blender 3D

2. Unwrap in Blender 3D and assign materials

3. Import to Substance Painter and bake

4. Use Substance Painter to build up and apply surface textures (I also use Substance Designer to create textures if I don't have anything suitable in libraries or from stock).

5. Export textures

6. In Blender 3D shading workspace use the Node Wrangler plug in  to connect the textures, exported from Substance Painter, to the principled material shader

7. Light and set camera

8. Render in Blender 3D and save in an image format

9. Finish in Photoshop

Thanks for the info.

So what situations would you use Stager for?

And so I can get the cheaper subscription, and do your workflow?

I would occasionally use Stager as an alternative to render. Each rendering application/rendering engine has its own strengths and weaknesses.

The 3D collection subscription also gives access to a higher number of monthly asset points and the ability to use those points for models as well as materials.
