Freely transformable cage

It would be cool if you could freely transform the cages similar to Cinema 4D's FFD Transformer. So a cage with an adjustable grid structure, where the points would all be freely movable to transform everything freely. In addition, of course, a reset button so that everything has its default values again.

Hi @C4D4U,

That would be a cool feature indeed. We are aware that the cage system inside Substance 3D Painter is presently pretty basic, and this is in fact one of our current focus.

As you can see in this video presentation, we are working on an automatic adaptive cage, but for now, if you have specific needs for a project, you'll have to create your own cage and import it in Substance Painter.

Best regards,

H Cyril,

Thanks for the quick feedback.

The idea with the own cage is even much better. Here I can upload an object that already has the shape and number of points that I can change. If I want it simple, I take an object with few points. If I want it very detailed then with many points.

I just thought of a cool idea that could make working with it very easy. But the effort to program something like this will be very complicated.
My idea would be: Create the cage with one click. Here the outer layer of the object is used. Using sliders, you can then determine the number of points, similar to what you do with splines to create intermediate points. For X, Y and Z. Another slider then determines the distance to the object. It would also be interesting to have a checkbox that determines whether this cage should be linked to the object or not. So unlinked I make all changes without changing the main object and can make adjustments. As soon as I activate it, the changes of the points will also change the object.
Should only serve as inpiration 🙂

Thanks again for your feedback.
