Hello,
I imported a PNG file in Substance Sampler, that was created as a vector file in Illustrator.
The file was added as an image to bitmap, with a base material in the layer. When I add the embroidery layer, the image shows up, but as a grey shape. The threads or the color is not showing up.
Does anyone know why this is happening? Attached is a screenshot of the grey shape, but it's supposed to be red/white/blue and with thread. I also attached the PNG file that I exported from Illustrator.
Thank you
From your log I see that 3D Sampler struggle to acces the asset.
I see you linked a folder from one drive directly (that shouldn't create issues), but 3D Sampler tries to acces assets in a *.zip folder. Wich explains the struggle to read the image.
You might extract the image from the zip to avoid any reading issues.
Also! An update for 3D Sampler is now available (3.1.1) and fixes some bug and performances issue, I invite you to update your software!
Keep me update!

Hi,
Make sure the propertie "Color mode" is set on Color Image so the embroidery take the colors of the input image.
If this doesn't correct the issue please share the properties of your embroidery.
Thank you.

Hi @LoryAline
Thanks for your reply!
It is on color image but it is still grey.
The layers include base material, png, and the embroidery filter.
Below are the screenshots of the properties. I tried this on a different computer, and it worked just fine, so I think it has to do with the properties or my laptop, but what do you think?

Can you also check the color 1,2, etc properties. It should have the colors of the image.
If the colors are correct then it might be an issue with the graphic card, in any case Send us a Log file so we can investigate further and find a solution.
follow those steps to export a logfile:

Hi @LoryAline
The strange thing is that I'm not pulling from a .zip folder. I'm dragging the file from my desktop.
I'll send over your comments to our IT, and ask them if they can update my software!
Thank you! I'll keep you posted.

Hi @LoryAline
As promised, here are the updates so far:
I imported the same file into Sampler from my desktop, my downloads, and from One Drive Pictures folder and they all resulted in the same conclusion. None of them are in a .ZIP drive. For some reason, Sampler is now picking up the colors, when I use the embroidery filter (it used to be grey), but the threads are still not showing. Very strange.
IT is looking to do an update to the newer version of Sampler, so hopefully this helps!

Very Strange indeed,
I just saw it but is this the name of the image input "Artboard 1@4x.png"? did you try to rename it with a more conventional name?
I've re-checked your logs and I'm pretty sure 3D Sampler struggle to access your files.
Did you try with another image too?
If you don't want to wait for IT to do an update or if the update doesn't fix the issue, you can try to rename (for back-up or delete this following folder: ~/AppData/Roaming/Allegorithmic (or Adobe)/Adobe Substance 3D Sampler, BUT It will reset your Sampler.

Hi @LoryAline
Yes, I renamed the file to Polo_Test_Embroidery and tried the file in Sampler. I also created an Illustrator file of a Star on this computer, exported it as a png, and it did the same thing. Grey with no threads.
Yesterday I said the color showed up, but that was my mistake. I imported it using Image to Material. Today, I tried again and used Bitmap to Material, and it turned grey again.
It's strange, I can use Sampler when I tile fabrics, and I can use the weave filter. It's just the embroidery filter that is having trouble with the file.
I'm using a work lap top, so I don't think I can find the AppData/Roaming.... file. I'll wait for IT, which will take a little bit, but I'll let you know the update when they upgrade. THanks again for all of your help!

You don't have to import the image import nor image to material nor bitmap.
Try to follow this:
As you can see in my layer stack there's only the embroidery filter.

Hi!
I did exactly what you said and same result. I think you're right it has to do with my computer. I'll keep you updated but I really appreciate your help!

Hi @LoryAline
I have some good news, and also a question.
The good news is that it was a graphics card issue! My graphics card wasn't optimized but once I did that, the embroidery threads now show.
My question is that I exported the .sbsar and added it as artwork in Browzwear. However, the resolution it exported was very low, even though I chose 4096 resolution. However, when I exported the PNG's of V-Stitcher's texture maps, the resolution was very high. It looked good. Do you know how to change the resolution of the SBSAR?

Hi,
Did you make sure in the export windos that te resolution was right?
What is the resolution of the logo you are using?

Hi @LoryAline
Sorry for the million questions. So I want to go back a little bit, and ask you about the resolution between Sampler and Painter. Maybe this will help to answer why the resolution is not good in V-Stitcher.
I prefer the resolution 2048x2048 when exporting files.So here's what I did:
Sampler: Final resolution - 2048x2048
Send to Painter
Once in Painter, I opened a bucket hat fbx file that was made in V-Stitcher. Resolution: 2048
I then dragged the embroidery onto the hat, and sized it to the size I wanted. For some reason, when I placed it on the hat, it was upside down. I'm assuming that's the UV layout of the hat?
So once I did that, I made a comparison between Sampler and Painter. Painter's resolution doesn't look as crisp as Sampler's. Do you know why?

Don't be sorry we are here to help!
Did the decal use the same uv space in Sampler and Painter? If it is smaller it is normalto loose some details, also can you check with the vray render if you see the same issue?
can you share a screen of you UV space?

Hi @LoryAline
Apologies for the delay, I was out of office. How do I show you the uv space?
I am not sure how to render in Sampler, but I did notice that when I "send to Painter", and I drag it onto the hat that I uploaded, the embroidery ends up on the hat upside down and very, very big.
When I follow the tutorial on how to bring in the embroidery, (alt+drag with left mouse button) I can't see the embroidery at all.
Here is a screenshot:
So I end up just dragging it without the Alt key. That's when it comes in huge and upside down.
Below is the screenshot of the entire space for Sampler.
Full screenshot of Painter . Also a screenshot of the render, but I don't think it looks very good.
This is 2048 x 2048 resolution

for the first thing I think it's a bug from painter I let you report it to them so they fix it follow the image (and if you can attach the screenshot it will help them):
This is how you can share the uvs in painter:
So if I understand well your project is in 2048 and the logo is also in 2048?
If yes this is normal that you lose definition on the logo as you have to resize it.
I link to you articles that will help you understand the theory of DPI :
Both approach the subject from complementary angles, which are very important to assimilate for the quality of your future projects.

Thanks for the link. Yes, I also did the tutorial that is online for using the embroidery filter.
I imported this same image in another computer and it worked fine, but I'm wondering if I'm doing something different in this computer, or if it's the computer itself. Do you have any thoughts what this issue could be?

It strange that the same image not works fine on different computers. Are the both comps use the same OS?
You can try to reinstall Sampler and see does it helps.
