The new forum needs a little bit of humor to release the tension of the changeover, so I've started part 2 of the old thread so that we don't have to keep scrollong to the end of the old thread.

If it gets too long before the "go to the latest reply" issue is resolved, I can lock this thread and link to a part 3 thread.

I was researching historic candy packaging and found this fellow circa 1914. The cleanup took me nearly three hours.

Mmmmmm, toffee.  My favorite. 😍

CLASSIC BUTTER TOFFEE
====================
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
* 1 cup white sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup toasted almonds (finely chopped)

Combine butter, sugar, salt in a large heavy sauce pan. Cook & stir over medium heat. Allow toffee mixture to boil and cook to the soft-crack stage -- a dark amber color, 285 degrees F (137 degrees C). Off heat.

Stir in vanilla and pour toffee into a prepared parchment-lined baking dish. Top with chocolate.  Wait until chocolate softens and smooth with the back of a spoon. Top with chopped almonds and press slightly. Refrigerate until set. Break into pieces. Store in airtight containers.

YIELDS: 1 lb (16 servings) of toffee

* Sugar restricted: Substitute with Swerve™ and Keto chocolate chips.

Perfect, Nancy, especially the toasted almonds. I am an anything-with-nuts fan. Maybe substitute dark chocolate chips and add a splash of espresso with the vanilla?

Espresso might seize the candy and make it granular.  But you could use half vanilla and half espresso liqueur -- Khalua, Copa De Oro or even Amaretto for sure.  I'm all for variation.  Now I've GOT to make some.

Or someone posts an opinion that may or may not be controversial but they expect some people to get upset over, so they end their post with, "Fight me."

Ugh, those sound awfully snarky, lol. Here's another one I hear a lot: “What's up with that?”

"My bad" started out as a basketball player's "Sorry, my bad move," but fell into general use for whatever mistake was made. I don't hear it as much anymore. Does it come off as a quick dismissive type of apology to anyone here?

It does, but I have heard it said by some who didn't mean it that way.

The problem with trendy phrases is sometimes the well-meaning user might not be aware of what it comes off as. I got blasted as a young 'un using phrases from TV sitcoms.

Yes, I hear “my bad” quite a bit and with the comeback, “you're good.”  I guess to imply the offense wasn't THAT bad to begin with. I think it's the evolution of polite phrases. Sometimes for amusement when being introduced to someone, I'll say, “How do you do?” and I usually get a funny look.
