Nice one.

My mum used to tell us that she was sent out to the Saturday matinee with a tanner. (aka Sixpence, six old UK pennies, half a shilling or two cents American).  She could see the  movie, and have enough for a bag of chips on the way home.     She's coming  up to 90 years old.  When I was 'almost' old enough to go to the pub, a pint of Starlight bitter cost 11d (eleven old pence, four American cents) and a gallon of two stroke cost 4 shillings and 10 pence.   Aye, but we were lucky!

We are going full circle now. We did a 'when signs go wrong'segment of this thread a couple of hundred posts back.

Oh, and I know of a couple of people who  still do the Pokemen Go thing.  One of them also does online casino, so he is obviously beyond hope.

Yes we did have  that round of "design failures", but in the spirit of moving on, I'll post something different.

One guy saw an an old friend playing Pokemon GO...and when he asked why, the bloke sadly said, "You gotta live your life, man, live your life." So at times I'm amused, but whatever get others through the day.

And here we go...

That's an "unboxing" video to top them all. Almost had me. It helps to know Japan does have some strange toys.

The VW train is very nicely done.

Is this for real or deliberately done for the picture?

Ute & Quad Bike.jpg

I once tried to launch my boat without undoing the rear trailer straps, so we all have our off days.  We hadn't used it for several months, and I jumped out with my camera leaving my brother-in-law to winch it into the water, but nothing happened.  The thing is, if the straps had been undone, and it did come off the trailer, it would not have gone very far because the prop cover was still on as well.  An all round fail.     We don't have the boat now, as it was too painful bouncing over the short choppy waves in the Sounds after I broke my back.

Probably done for the picture.

Just do a GIS on how dirt bikes are tied down. They are anchored to metal loops inside the truck. You can't own a dirt bike, a heavy duty truck and not know that a tire spoke isn't a tie down while staring at it to thread the strap. (Short of a prankster, inexperienced help, or severe intoxication).

OTOH it is an effective theft deterrent.

I love the crack lines around the nail in phone.  It is probably very un PC of me, but that Russian looking text on the sign seems to give the situation a lot more credibility.

A real editorial cock-up, or just another urban myth?

From the same newspaper that claims Global Warming is  a  Chinese conspiracy.

Obviously 100% NOT fake news

Now I feel terrible  because this one made me laugh out loud

Gene this thread has been making me smile for getting on 18 months now, and shows no signs of slowing down, so I am wondering if you mind if we go off at  a wee tangent for a post or two?  The thing is, I was getting embarrassed hijacking Brian's Hotel concierge taken over by Amazon Echo thread, but I got such a smile after digging out some _very_  old pictures, and I am double daring folk to show us how they misspent their younger days. I shared a picture on Brian's thread of my brother and myself pushing hoes through countless miles of earth, but I found some other pictures from way back then.

That's me driving, with brothers Glyn and Geoff on the trailer with boxes of spring greens.  We once had to cut these on a Boxing day, and it was so cold we had to brush the snow off them before we cut them.  I once knocked over a big brick wall with that tractor, seeing how fast I could drive round the hairpin behind that shed.  Brother Glyn had the same tractor on two wheels on another occasion.  It hovered balanced there, and Glyn started to fall off but kept hold of the steering wheel.  The tractor then fell back onto four wheels  and my brother pulled himself back on, and shot off up the yard because the hand throttle was still close to flat out.  I have no idea how any of us  survived.

This has to  be worth a share.  That's Glyn again.  When we were a few years younger than this, we tried to ride the big pigs.  Like I said...  It's a miracle we are all still above ground

The farm buildings where across the road from the end of the main runway at Southend airport

And we saw a few unhappy endings.  I love the old Vauxhall cop car.   I put my dad's car in the ditch on the left hand bend right after this right.  He was not happy, but we did have a tractor to pull it out with, so not all bad.

Last one from me.  My dad and I fixing the tractor.  Brother Geoff once came walking back from the fields carrying a smashed piston with half a bent connecting rod.  That was a different tractor, as the crankcase must have been toast.

So come on guys.  Show us your _old_ pictures and make us smile.

Sorry, one more.  I'd forgotten how many plane crashes we had there!

And what about the bobby with the pointy helmet.  Real Dixon of Dock Green stuff.  We actually had a Tardis type police box just across the road from the Vauxhall police car is parked in the last post.

Another chart by Chizutodesign (He compiled a periodic elements table using Adobe icons).

For anyone who works late or parties late in Tokyo, he designed this graph of the last suburban trains out of the city.

Someone who used to be fascinated by illustrations like the Chizutodesign train graph above, was John Nack.  His blog was essential reading before he left Adobe for Google, but I just looked him up, and he is still posting, and the content is as good as ever.  The strange thing is that content seems to be still centred around what Adobe are doing.

News about ub40 on Twitter  involving Kavanaugh has been trending on Twitter and I've been playing "Red Red Wine" more than a few times since then.

If you know who UB40 is, chances are UB over 40.

Good gracious it is hard to keep with it all.  Nancy's gag had tears running down my face through laughing so hard, but I am still a wee bit surprised that so blatant a gag is OK to put out there.  From a non American's point of view, it seems to me that if your country wants to salvage what little credibility it has left when it comes to truth and goodness, it should accept that there is more than enough evidence that BK's background makes him unsuitable for the SC.  Way way more than enough evidence.

A Washington Post made what I thought to be a very valid point a couple of days ago.  BK made a statement that demonstrated his ultra conservative views, and members of the Supreme Court should surely be above politics, and make judgements based solely on the law.

It's a case of 'can't find the wood for the trees' regarding finding that particular article again, but this might be it.

Brett Kavanaugh just got remarkably angry — and political — for a Supreme Court nominee - The Washin...

So ... are you're aware that he's got years of public service as an appelate jurist, and has had an outstanding career? That was a tough issue for the opponents ... they couldn't find anything other than they disagree with him philosophically. And that is that he thinks judges are supposed to judge according to the Constitution and laws, separate from legislating which he sees as a Legislative branch duty, not a judicial duty as assigned by that Constitution. Apparently, you're totally ignorant of that aspect of the man. But quite happy to judge his character and life, I see.

Did you pay any attention to the grilling he got from some of the Democratic senators, in the 'regular' hearing, where he maintained a very calm, focused, and gentle demeanor? Apparently, that skipped your attention also. I'm 65. I've watched many confirmation hearings over the years. I've never seen such behavior on the part of any Senators before.

I'd note for that part, he was criticized in many press articles for maintaining an "unnatural" calm and control ... the only place he went somewhat emotional was the additional hearings after being charged with something that was not brought up at any time during the private nor public hearings by Senator Feinstein, and I might add ... a charge that is not substantiated in any part by any of the people the claimant says were part of the "situation".

So ... at first, criticized for being "unnaturally controlled" ... he was then criticized by the same writers for being too emotional during a response to a very personal attack.

Again, the claimant has given several people as part of the situation ... all of which have stated that they have no recollection or that such a thing never happened to their knowledge. Said claimant also said she'd been through a lie detector test within the last couple weeks ... but couldn't give a date on that either.

You'll trash a 30-year career of service over that?

Well, whaddya know ... apparently I'm an ultra-conservative, because jeepers ... I also believe in the primacy of the individual over Society, which is the basis of the thinking behind our Constitution. That all individuals possess the same native rights, not because the current government decides that they'll allow subjects certain abilities ... but simply because they are human: freedom as much as is possible to remain a civilized society, where each person has the right to the fruits of their labor (property) and to their own thoughts and beliefs, and the ability to speak of those freely.

That any governmental restrictions on freedom must be approved by the citizens of that society either by direct vote or by their representatives (and not by judges) ... and fit within the guiding framework those citizens laid out in the Constitution as written and subsequently amended.

Has the US been perfect in that? Of course not ... we're human. And we're quite public about arguing about how well we do or don't do. That I've always been pretty proud of. That public spat about where we do ok, where we've failed, and where and how we can improve.

Over the years, I've had some good laughs at many comedians poking fun at political situations. In the last few years, it's gotten rather mean spirited ... as are comments that those who do believe justices should stay within the Constitution and laws are "ultra-conservative" and should not be serving in public life.

This entire kerfluffle is political ...

Blimey Neil.  Are we talking about the same Brett Kavanaugh?  These are not the faces of cool calm and collected.  To the rest of the world he comes across as vicious and calculating, and a nasty piece of work.

Of course at least one of these pictures might have been taken right after he realized it was not beer in  that glass.

You seem to be proud of your country, but I honestly wonder why.  Truth is a meaningless commodity for you.  It apparently does not matter how despicable a person might be, so long as they have the 'Right' politics.  When the UN laughed at Trump, don't you get that they were laughing at your country?  You need to fix that by putting another Obama, John McCain, or Bernie Saunders in your White House.  You need someone who understands the science to head your EPA, and not another nasty piece of work driven by personal greed, and to hell with the planet, because it probably won't go tits up in their lifetime.

You, Neil, get out of your pram, when when an apparently ultra right wing candidate is challenged for what I'd have thought should an apolitical role, but can you put your hand on your heart, and claim  to have been as upset when Trump ousted  Sally Yates, or Preet Bharara,  or even James Comey?  Those were all good honest people who were troubled by Trump's total disregard for the laws  that you claim to hold so dear.   The one  that makes  me smile is how completely Trump turned on  Jeff Sessions after he grew a backbone and recused himself from what would have a totally compromised position.

I guess people really do get the government they deserve.  There's none so blind as them that won't see.
