The January 6th Committee Hearings
This Friday marks the 50th Anniversary of the infamous Watergate break-in & ensuing scandal that made Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward & Carl Bernstein famous and eventually lead to Richard Nixon's downfall. But for all the criminal things Nixon did in the oval office, he never staged a coup attempt. Even he had some scruples left. Nixon understood the Constitution. He understood his oath of office. And while he tried to challenge it and failed, he was well-familiar with the Rule of Law because he was an attorney first and politician second.
I never thought I'd be saying this but compared to what we now know about Trump's fraud, Nixon doesn't seem half bad. The riveting testimony by Trump's conservative staff, legal counsel & family members paints a portrait of a desperate, unhinged man on the brink of losing his power. I almost shudder to think what will be revealed to us next. And this is only day 3 of the hearings...
Meanwhile, the Dept of Justice has just demanded the Jan 6th Committee hand over all their documents & transcripts immediately. I wonder what that could mean? 😮
