It's always better to start a new thread in your situation. That way we would know what operating system you were using from the thread tags, and we'd have a clue as to which Photoshop version?    So what operating system and version are you using? What Photoshop version? Reference to the last post from last year, what do your brush settings look like?   Is this happening with all brush presets and tools that use the same cursor(s)? When did it start, and does it tie in with something changing?  You mentioned an update.  Which one.   Dispite you finding this old thread, this is not a frequent issue.  You are the first person I have seen reporting it in the 16 years I have been doing this.  It might, just possibly, be a corrupted settings file, and solved with a Preference reset, but my guess is that something is broken.  Either with Photoshop or your operating system.   If you open Photoshop and go Help > System Info > Copy and paste to this thread, that will tell us what you are using. What is the image size in pixels? What is its bit depth? i.e. 8 bit, 16 bit, 32 bit? What is the smudge tool cursor size?   Have you tried on another image?   On top of what Dave has asked, this is a situation where your System Information might be helpful. That's a good point Christophe.  If the OP needed to break that down into < 1024 pixel chunks, then that is going to take at least 15 seconds a time.  That's got to add up to a serious delay with full res images.  I am not sure where @Zott!!! got the three minute estimate from.  The human input would be 30 seconds tops IME, so with a decent connection...   There is no OS tag for the original post, but if @Zott!!! is using a Mac, I wonder if you could work on two Photoshop versions simultaniously, and swap between them while the other is waiting for the Adobe server to to its thing?  I have never tried that, but it would an interesting experiment. ... You have to copy the layer and turn off the original. Remove just the model from the frame.  That's not with a layer mask, the model needs to be gone.  You can probably even fill the area taken by the model with a solid colour, but Content Aware Fill would be safer. Then make the selection and use Generative Fill and copy the model back in.   So: Original   Object Selection Tool > People > Entire Person > Apply   Expand selection, and Content Aware Fill. I'm sure you knew all this   Select and add prompt.  I wonder what we'll get   Turn the copy of the model back on and move to top of stack, and you've beaten the Adobe censor. I'm sure you knew all that and were letting Adone know how annoying the censorship is for a working photographer, but they are not going to relax their position while Ai continues to get continuous bad press.   It took just a few seconds to do the workaround, and the model was returned to the scene entirely seamlessly.   ... Hi Sara.  I'm afraid this is going to be one of those 'it depends' situations. What is the colour of the volcano smoke, and what would you like the sky to look like?    Does it have to be the original smoke? i.e. could you use Generative Fill to create some more? This is mount Taranaki on a rare day that you could see it from below.   I used Generative Expand with the crop tool to give it some room for the smoke to fill, and then used Generative Fill to create an eruption   If you share your image, we'll be better placed to give you advice on using masks, blend modes, or whatever to achieve your desired effect. ... Preferences are not reset when updating, and I would be very inclined to try a reset.  Especially with the beta version that gets confused more frequently that the release version.  To be safe, do a manual reset, and see if that fixes the issue. https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually   Good luck. ... Yes, a Wacom Cintiq Pro. By @jonoiii   I have not used tilt sensitivity, because it tend to work the oposite way to what I'd like, and I don't know how to change it.  A pencil would produce a larger and more soft stroke when angled, but in Photoshop tilting the pen produces a smaller, less opaque stroke, according to what settings you are using.  Using the pen more perpendicular to the tablet produces a larger denser stroke with those same settings.   This lady has some nice ideas, but does not make use of pen tilt.   I totally agree that always relying on downloaded presets does not teach you the brush engine,  but you can reverse engineer downloaded presets.     Being a specialist area, I think you'll find more relevant expertise in the likes of Digital art forums and sub-reddits Digital Art Digital Art | Artist Forum   I'd be interested to know what you find if you wouldn't mind post back here.  Thanks ... I like it Alan and it's great to see the 3D apps being used in SFTW. Dave By @davescm   Oh wow.  I was thinking how realistic it looked, but did not realise it was a Substance render.  Would that be less complicated than Blender renders, or is it the same process?  In the last week I feel like I have worked out basic After Effects for the Kaleidoscope, did some basic animations with Animate — but I'm not so sure about that as I think it is all vector.  I also had a play with Adobe Express after discovering that's were the Firefly Text Effects had disappeared to.  It even still had the last text I'd done with Firefly.  It's a job to keep up. 😞  The other thing I have been doing is swapping to video timelines in Photoshop, and I can't see me going back to frame animations — Photoshop is more capable than I realised regards video.  We have said it a bunch of times, Dave's SFTW threads are a effective Adobe app teaching aid.  You have an idea, and you'll do whatever it takes to make it happen.  ... @Aleke  Smart Portrait gives a very limited change in angle of a face, and nowhere near a full profile.  It's a cool feature all the same.     @Ergo-88 I wonder if you used the first face as a reference, and a text prompt asking for the reference image to be shown in profile?  It's one heck of an ask, but Generate Fill has surprised the heck out of me at times.  Other times, not so much so, but you'll never know if you don't give it a try. ... I ended up masking everything out as I was in a rush By @jon_6269   So the ghost text was in one of the layers?  If I am understanding correctly, it was part of a type layer, and you were able to hide it using a layer mask on that layer?  Could you also mask it with a solid fill layer at the top of the layer stack?   It's tempting to look at things like language packs that we know can cause issues, but I think the issue is not just affecting Type layers.  Or GPU driver issues, but those artifacts don't save with the image document, and can't be masked.  It would still be interesting to turn off GPU acceleration temporarily to see if it fixes the problem. My guess is that it won't.  The people reporting this all have good English, so language packs seem unlikely.   Is there any similarity in different people's ghost text content? i.e. do they have the same words, or is it random?  If you have experienced this, does the ghost text relate, in any way, to other layers or even documents?   Are you using the same operating system? Could it be coming from the clipboard? Do you use keyboard macros, perhaps. i.e. do you recognize the ghost text content?   It's a strange one, so the more information people can provide, the better the chance of spotting a correlation unique to the people experiencing this issue.       ...
