For what it's worth, I was tasked with approaching allocated text boxes that had already been created and positioned by another department, after which I had to calculate their sizes and coordinates. I was actually just dealing with this for allocated text, where you cannot use sourceRectAtTime but instead boxTextSize. The math was a little tedious but I solved it by calculating their x,y coordinates for each vertex of the text box and then aligning based on the min or max value of the compared layers. Say you have 2 text boxes in which you feed dynamic text and set alignment (top left, top middle, top right, middle left, etc.), but the alignment is for the text boxes as a group. In other apps (not necessarily for Adobe), we have a system whereby the user defines a maximum area (a reference box) in which the text boxes can live. Depending on the length of the text in each box, the font size will adjust so that the group never exceeds the width and height of the text box, but the text boxes as a group remain set to the user-specified vertical/horizontal alignment relative to the reference box. We are trying to figure out a way to recreate this method in AE, but beyond some initial tinkering with parenting the text boxes to null layers, have been drawing a blank. I was running into the same problem in AE CC 2015 where I had a loop that I was hoping would generate unique random numbers, rounded to integers. However, they were all outputting the same. Yes, we noticed that as of CC 2015, even the setInterval and clearInterval methods on the angular side of our app started working, but we were trying to retro-engineer for users who still used CC 2014.
