It also may be applying other settings to the still image raw file that may be contributing to the color rendering issue. Just a guess as I'm not familiar with Panasonic cameras. They were taken in 'proper' stills mode,but cropped in camera to 4K/16:9 as this is how I view them on a 4K TV set.I have to do it this way as I won't always be able to tell how to frame them otherwise.

I downloaded your screenshot and applied only your LR Basic panel settings embedded in the file to the original raw file with Adobe Standard Profile. To match your rendering I changed the Calibration panel Red Hue to +5. As mentioned earlier you can save these two settings (Treatment & Profile, Calibration) as a Develop preset or change your 'Default Develop Settings to include the Calibration panel setting change. I have no idea if this is a "proper" correction that will work with all images under all lighting conditions. The best way to do that is create a custom camera profile using a ColorChecker PassPort. The required correction is pretty small so it's not likely anything is wrong with the camera. Thanks guys,think I've got it sussed now.I had to go to +9 to get it looking right to my eyes on this and others. This is about right and was quite a subdued shade of orange....... This was quite a bright and vibrant version of orange...... And this was a bit of a difficult colour to get right and to remember the exact colour of as these photos were taken about three weeks ago.But it is (I think!!!!) half way between orange and yellow.

Thank you for that and something I'd never thought of before you mentioned it.I always used Photoshop with my Canon Cameras and only started using Lightroom when I bought the Panasonic camera. If the problem is with my image processing software and not my camera,I'll have a play with different profiles and let you know how I get on.

Ok I'll read that review when I get time,didn't see that before I bought the camera. Yes I did try the WB shift thing,but it didn't really make a significant difference to the colour of the pickup. Ok thanks I understand now.I never really gave much thought to where the preview my camera shows me comes from.I sort of assumed the camera just made it every time you looked at the image files stored in it,rather than it being a separate file stored somewhere.My Xiaomi action camera creates it's thumbnails and stores them as another file with different extension to the main one,both of which are visible when you download from the memory card.

'The pickup picture was shot on a cloud covered overcast day, which will have a color temperature a lot higher than 5000K! Try increasing the WB Temp slider to something in the 6500-7500K range.' The white balance is set manually for what ever lighting conditions exist on that day.Surely if the WB was wrong,it would affect all the colours?

Using LR Classic CC to try and sort out a problem my camera (Panasonic Lumix G80) has with the colour orange.It handles every other colour perfectly with the exception of shiny red which is almost right (just a slight purple tint on bright highlights).But oranges of a particular shade (I'm not sure which ones in particular,it seems a bit random) come out scarlet,vermilion or even almost red in some cases.I can of course correct this using the HSL sliders in Lightroom and have made a series of presets I just have to click on to correct it. I'm trying to make a preset I can apply on import,so decided to take some test photos of an orange bucket I'd bought just for this task. This pickup should be near as damn it the same colour as the bucket,no processing other than what was applied on import..... This (the bucket) is the sort of colour it normally has trouble with.I took a series of photos using every photo style my camera has,all saved as cropped RAW images.The above image is as it came out of the camera with no colour correction and is 100% perfect,i.e. the bucket and bag really are exactly that colour.Now as I understand the process when you import into LR using RAW images it converts them to DNG based on the embedded profile from the photo style that was set when the photo was taken.Every image I see after import and moving to the develop module looks exactly the same,including the two that were monochrome on import are now the exact same as all the others in full colour.The only processing it applies to all the images is cropping down to 16:9,colour temperature to 5000K (I guess based on the camera's white balance setting) and sharpening.How is it applying just these and not the selected photo styles,or am I just not understanding how this is supposed to work,i.e. does it get this embedded profile from somewhere else and not from the photo styles?

Almost entirely slides in a projector for me.It was a LONG time ago so I can't remember what the few I had printed looked like. Duly noted about the white balance settings,I will try to remember to set them for the ambient lighting conditions every time. Now chrisw44157781 I'd still be interested to know how you arrived at that LUT please?

No autofocus or even through-the-lens metering and just a 50mm prime and no zoom until I graduated to a Practica Nova B made it even more of a challenge! I'm still not sure why you say "you asked for getting good colour but were using techniques where you could not possibly do so" when I all I did was record the video on an auto setting and the colour profile set to flat.We (or Chris) managed to fix that with a LUT which gives the results I'm after,so why should I need to shoot differently other than switching to a manual white balance setting?

Thank you for the lecture and life history,but I think you're "uninformed" as to what I want from something that is nothing more than a hobby for me.I am also not for one second questioning anyone's credentials who has helped me so far. I appreciate the fact that a camera (movie or stills) is only a machine that has many different ways it can be used,and an almost infinite number of settings to alter the way it can capture an image.I also appreciate the fact that the photo is in my head and the camera is just a way of capturing that image. I started taking photos as a hobby in the early 1970s with a Zenit B fully manual SLR camera,and back in those days on a schoolboy's salary every shot had to count as one 36 exposure roll of Kodachrome slide film had to last me at least a month.Back then we didn't have the luxury of being able to correct in post production,more so for me with slide film than if I was getting them printed.They weren't all perfect or even all that good,but they were good enough for me. Today I still take digital photos with the same thought in mind that every shot has to count.I am happy with my hobby settings of finding a compromise that is close enough to reality that I can use them as they come out of the camera.I don't want to spend hours proving to a Youtube or photography forum audience why my life should revolve around taking everything as RAW images,and why people who take photos exclusively as JPEGs (for example ME) should be condemned to a life of purgatory. I came on here to learn the basics of how to colour correct,i.e. in this case to make red things that had turned into orange things back into red things again.I'm interested to find out how that was achieved as I have been given a LUT that does exactly what it needs to,once I know that I will be able to do it all for myself next time a take a video and a banana comes out purple.

I would expect a £1000 DSLR made by a camera manufacturer with Canon's pedigree to be able to do near perfect colour reproduction without having to tweak anything.The above photo of my car was taken using the same standard picture profile I use for all the photos I take with it which is "Fine detail". Xiaomi are still relatively new when it comes to this sort of thing and are struggling to get it just right,but they're all steps in the right direction (mostly!) as most of the firmware updates are improvements over the previous ones. If it stops raining this weekend I'll do the same video but with the DSLR ("only" 1080P though!).

No,it was at about 1.30 PM today.I had to get them all with the same lighting conditions,so would have had to wait some time to get them all with the sun out,so did them all with slight cloud cover. All these problems will go away when I can afford a DSLR with 4K video,but in the mean time I'm stuck with this so will have to make the most of it. So any ideas please if we use a fixed white balance setting?

No worries Chris. Now for everyone's entertainment here's a video of my own car which just happens to be red and shows the five different white balance pre-sets.Unfortunately these are all I have as it won't let me carry out any manual white balance calibration.These were made with everything in the camera set to zero or flat,and no post processing except for the titles...... This is what it looks like to my DSLR........

Thank you for your help,but you're only half reading the information I've given. "The pickup in the first half of this video is VERY red and the pickup in the second half is VERY orange" Again the later post above "also I don't think it helped he tweaked the blues around",like I said this was only needed before the firmware update last weekend. This is for the video taken a few weeks ago BEFORE the update...... And this is what I used for the most recent video shown in the first post up at the top.....

Thank you and yes I believe I understand how white balance works. The second image above was shot with a DSLR (a Canon EOS 80D) set to auto white balance.Yes I know this shows the difference between a £1000 DSLR and a £150 action camera,but would this not affect ALL the colours that I capture with it and not just shiny red? The only difference between the two images of the same car is a couple of hours and by the time I took the photo it had gone cloudy so was less direct sunlight than the video. The hand/grey card thing I mentioned was purely to check the monitor calibration and nothing else,which to my eyes is as near as **** perfect for what I do.

The problem is that one is supposed to be red,almost the same colour as the red car above! The truck on the left in your capture is shiny dark red (sort of burgundy),the one on the right is bright and shiny red.

Thanks for the links R Neil.I'm happy that the white balance is as good as it's going to for what I do,which is just a hobby.I really don't want to be spending 3 or 4 times more then the camera cost to try to get more accurate colours,and I trust my method of taking a photo of my hand and a piece of grey cardboard to make sure my monitor is properly calibrated,which as far as I'm concerned is as good as it's ever going to get for my eyes. The video camera (a Yi 4K) is set to auto white balance.I updated the firmware this weekend before shooting that lot,and interestingly before that even set to flat it had a very noticeable yellow tint to it and I had to dial in quite a bit of blue to get rid of it.It's now a lot more neutral and apart from contrast and saturation etc it now needs a lot less colour correction,and the image also seems to be more detailed than it was before. It's using the Lumetri panel I really need help with as apart from basic corrections it's all voodoo to me.So instead of just pulling and pushing here and there,can I sample the correct colour from the still photo and then adjust the video to that? Here's an even better example of what I mean,and I think this problem is worst with shiny red that it is with flat or matt red.......... The same car of course in both images.

The first one is not the same pickup in the video but is the same shade of red.The second one is the same orange pickup in the video and is the only still photo I have of it,but in real life it's a deeper orange than that.

Well almost the same.The pickup in the first half of this video is VERY red and the pickup in the second half is VERY orange,but as you can see they're almost the same colour.I don't remember them being like this before (but can't find any earlier examples).As you can see all other colours show near as [ ] perfectly. I have a video I'm editing which should have been all shot in 4K,but unfortunately I somehow managed to set the size down to 2704 x 1520 on a few of the clips I really need to include in the finished video. I've tried exporting with the target size set at 3840 x 2160,but the smaller clips still come out small.Is the only way to do this to rescale using the video effects panel? Or do I have to go back to Media Encoder and upscale them that way for better quality?

Got it working properly! I don't know what the slider at the bottom of all the audio files is supposed to do,but it's always set all the way to the left when I single click a file to select it.If I move it all the way to the right before I double click to import that file,then it imports all of the file and not just half of it.
