Hi MapleDog Chet has certainly posted a very informative response which I will be reading through with a lot of interest. There's a lot of research gone into that. I avoid png images as I have not managed to get good across the board images. Like Chet I use Word (not RH for Word) as described here. Click here. Essentially I grab my image, create a table cell in Word and apply a fixed width so that the image is the width I require, then I paste the screen capture into that. You said earlier that you did not think any Word updates had been applied. That suggests it is possible, perhaps via auto updates. Sometimes an uninstall and reinstall can fix issues like this so again, while you are waiting, why not give that a try. I have other ideas but if you want to wait for someone else... I asked about having a later version on the machine for a reason. RH can be a problem if you install an earlier version on a machine that has had a later version on it. I think the only solution will be to do a full uninstall including some registry changes. Welcome to the forum Claire. I don't know the answer but perhaps something here might help. 1] Was RH installed using your logon and with admin rights attached? Problems occur if IT install an application using their logons. 2] What version of Word are you using and was it installed before RH? 3] Rick Stone, aka RoboWizard for completely justifiable reasons, is more likely to know the answer. You could create a master doc but I was envisaging that after generating the four books, you would combine them in Word. The size is not too big for Word (unless it is hitting around 30mb). Hi Jim I guess it depends on whether development want to pick up the cost from their budget. :-) I maintain a number of help systems and one is a merged webhelp setup comprising over 12,000 topics precisely because it has a file for every field. For our new products I persuaded my management it was a nonsense maintaining that. I produce a topic describing a function, sometimes several topics, but somewhere in the page(s) for the function will a table or tables listing the fields. The developers map all the fields to the appropriate page and the user then has to locate the field in that table. The users are happy with that as they can see several fields at a time plus some general stuff. End result is a much more compact system that everyone is happy with including, most importantly, the users. ... View more

I agree entirely with Elisa if you want to work with Word. I use RH HTML so I won't let a Word document anywhere near my work except if up against death threats. I place a modified copy of my project on a web server and then the reviewers based in other offices access it using Macromedia Contribute. The process is described in this topic although good luck accessing it at the moment (see below). I do have some tidying up to do afterwards as Contribute does not automatically apply the normal style but the work level is far less then when I used Word documents. As for highlighting your changes, you will have to get a bit creative there. I simply prefix stuff with ### as it stands out and the reviewers know what it means. Before releasing the help, I use FAR to search through all topics to make sure no such marks are left in the help. The reviewers do the same. I am not surprised it takes ages given what you describe. Don't trash the print layout but right click on it and create some duplicates. Remove different topics from each so that combined you still have the full output. See if that improves things. The whole thing is probably choking. Memory could be an issue. ... View more

Welcome to the forum. I need to point you to my website and as you will see below, that may be troublesome at the moment. Mail me direct if you cannot get through in the next couple of hours. (Click my username) Topics appearing twice is usually easy to fix. It occurs when the book is linked to the topic, so the topic prints as a result of that, and the topic itself is listed, so it prints again. Now to wrong order bit. Two things to try. What template are you selecting in the last page of the wizard? If it is not the Style Mapping template, change to that to see if that fixes the problem. We'll worry about appearance later. On the next one you have to trust me! Take a copy of your project in Windows Explorer. Open the copy in RH and go to the topics list. Right click and apply one of the supplied style sheets that you have not used. Now generate the printed documentation again. Welcome to the forum. It is possible to reverse engineer from a webhelp output or a CHM output. I don't know about FlashHelp but I can point you to a site with information about the webhelp procedure so that you can see if that will work. Click here. I notice you say you did not backup in time. I wonder if that means you have backups and have just lost your work since a certain point? If so, you could restore that and then use Rick's method to recover just the lost changes, assuming the method does work for FlashHelp. Yes but do you mean when you add a new row to a table that was created from RH's menu/icons or a table you created using a style sheet. The fact that you are querying your style sheet suggests your tables are driven from there. Specifically, if you add a table using the icon and then add a row to that, does the problem arise there? Also you didn't say whether the problem corrects itself in the output or if the borders do appear there. ... View more

That's not normally a problem with RH. In pure HTML a cell without content will lose borders, for that reason Dreamweaver, for example, puts a space in a cell to avoid that problem. Looking at your code your table is, I think, created from the CSS rather than RH's own code? If so it could be something to do with the stylesheet definition. Create a new table using RH's menu and see if that has the problem. Also see if the missing borders appear when you generate the help. ... View more
