Draw a no-fill, no-stroke rectangle behind the artwork. This rectangle is used as the bounding area of rhte pattern. Ensure what is at the rectangles edges line up. If you drag the artwork from the Brush Panel to the artboard you'll see that Illustrator already created a rectangle. You can simply adjust that rctangle then drag the artwork back tot he Brush Panel holding the Option/Alt key down and rop it on top of hte existing artwork to replace it.

How to make a master arboard.... 1) Create the master items on an artboard. 2) Draw a rectangle the size of the artboard, no fill, no stroke. 3) Select all and drag to teh Symbol Panel 4) Choose Edit > Cut 5) Choose Edit > Paste on All Artboards There you go. When you need to edit the master items, double-click the symbol in the Symbol Panel.

psst... symbols act pretty much exactly like master page items. You just have to use symbols. Some people think just becuase they suddenly have some sort of epiphany that no one else has ever thought of it or suggested it.

rofisch, After running Carlos' script, simply choose Object > Artboards > Rearrange... That will allow you to reset gutters and placement.

. Might just be me, but I find the vertical space of posts, specificially staff or mvp users, to be too small. The first line of a post is directly below the datestamp of the post. This leads to unread text or at a minimum extreme visual confusion when reading replies. I've taken to adding a period and a few returns to every post to move content away from the software text. It would be helpful if there were something like 20-40 pixels of padding before and after the user-input text to separate it from the auto-generated text of the forum software. It's the Mac OS.... I've been running a Mac Pro / ATI 5870 with 10.6.8 and a Wacom Intuos 5 for months with no issues. I upgaded the system to Mac OS 10.7.4 this past week, now the cursor will vanish on my second or third monitor. Seems to happen any time in any app, but most commonly when dragging items between monitors. Specificially dragging something from the primary monitor to the second or thrid screen. What I'm dragging doesn't vanish, but the cursor sure does. I see it in the Finder a lot and Indesign. All I need to do is click some other app to bring it forward, then switch back to the app I was using and the cursor reappears on the other montiors. Note, the cursor never disappears from the primary monitor.

There is no built in feature to explode a shape. Here's what you can do though. Use the Direct Selection Tool (The white arrow) to click the center of the path on one side. Edit Copy, then Edit > Paste In Back. Repeat for all 4 sides. Finally, select the the path again and hit delete twice. You will be left with four independent paths.

Auto-save was not feasible for Illustrator until Illustrator was 64Bit in nature. CS6 is now 64Bit. It's my hope that in the future more changes will be made which were not possible in the 32Bit app.

In leu of creating a new user account, you could restore from a solid backup if you have one. Other than that option, I don't know what else to tell you other than to create a new user account and use Apple's migration Assistant to move as much as possible tot eh new user account. Trying to find a problem deep in a user account is a fool's errand in my experience. Start over and deal with it, you'll lose less time (and sleep).

If you are referrign to the hairline white line which appears on screen, it's due ot on-screen anti-aliasing. You can safely ignore the white hairline if the file is destined for print. As Jaccob suggests, print the file to a postscript device to verify this. If you need the remove the hairline for on-screen work, you might try turning off anti-aliasing in the preferences. Another solution is to add an appropriate color fill below the pattern fill so the pattern anti-aliases to something other than white.

You are mis-remembering. Illustrator has never had a mixed ink ability. You may be thinking of Indesign. In Illustrator, the easiest way is to use the Appearance Panel with multiple fills and overprint settings, then turn on Overprint Preview for the document.

Multiple gradient fills and transform effects? Works best on objects. Text strings arn't as good unless you split the text into single characters, then apply the style to each character independently.

I actually just logged in to suggest this very thing.
For many things where a user wants a pattern fill layer style the only workaround is to create a new pattern at the desired angle.
For shapes it's easy enough to just dup a layer, apply the pattern fill, rotate the layer, then mask. But when applying a pattern fill to things like text (which will undoubtedly change later) multiple layers can be cumbersome to manage and re-mask should changes occur in the text.
The ability to simply set the angle of a pattern would not only cut down on the necessity to manage multiple layers with associated masks, but would also cut down on the amount of patterns needed to accomplish a given task. A user could have a straight, single pixel, vertical pattern then be able to use that one pattern tile for any single row pattern they wanted whether at 45°, 90°, 30° or whatever.
Since this is regarding pattern fills... I'd also love smart object patterns. Double click a pattern swatch and it opens in Illustrator for adjustment. I know, probably left field... but you never know until you say something 😉

See, that's what gets me. It doesn't really matter. I can rename a bright red to Pantone 286U and it gets output on its own plate as a spot... the pressman sees the "286U" designation on the plate and grabs the 286 bue ink and prints the piece blue. All this inspite of the fact that I used a bright red. So in reality, the only purpose of the digital color books is so one can see approximations of the colors on screen. So why make the aproximations so far off visually due to the LAB build? The only time it may be an issue is when converting spots to CMYK upon output. But surely there must be a way to have the proper numbers and a better visual representation of the color density. All I can think is, I must be missing some reasoning.
