This doesn't work..Is there any other way that I can suppress warnings while opening a PDF file I don't know about this specific case with PDF files, but I know that there are cases with certain kinds of file corruption (esp jpegs) that it will always show a warning in spite of anything that you do programatically or with preferences. As for scope are variables all just script wide if you know what I mean in AppleScript I can have "Property", "Global" & "Variable" the later declared inside of a function is local to the function? Get the Flanagan JS book. It will explain this stuff in detail. The simplified version is that there are two scopes: global and function level. why do we users have to go through so much just to *use* this forum? If Adobe had kept an NNTP interface, I wouldn't need any tweaks because I wouldn't be using the web UI. Since they have chosen this web UI (Jive) and not enabled its NNTP gateway (for whatever reason) I am stuck with this interface and will try to do my best to make it as efficient as possible. If you are not seeing anything in the scripting listener log for slices, then there is nothing you can do. There is no support for slices in the JS DOM, but there may be via the scripting listener. This doesn't work since the crop has to be made with the item centered in the middle. You have to crop into certain images differently. If Trim doesn't work, how are you planning on automating the Crop? All images should end up with about half an inch of background showing. Could you elaborate on the difference between layers[] and artLayers[]? layers[] contains both ArtLayer and LayerSet objects. artLayers[] contains only ArtLayer objects. If I want to access the upper layer in order to "Stamp Visible" all the layers beneath it what should I use? The top layer/layerset is always doc.layers[0]. The idea that I use in the xtools installer and else where is this: 1) Convert the action file to XML. 2) Package the XML file and the apps/ActionFileFromXML script with your stuff. 3) An installer script will do a 'replace' (or whatever) on the XML file so that the paths are converted to whatever is needed. 4) The new XML is saved and then converted to a .atn file which is then loaded. so I had this as my shell text file #!/bin/sh osascript /Users/marklarsen/Desktop/RunMyAS.app I just did not get around to finding how/where this is save to be executable? On a PC would this be as simple as using ".exe" name extension? Shell scripts are typically saved either without an extension or with a .sh extension. I always use .sh. After you save it, make sure that you do a 'chmod +x MyASWrapper.sh' on the script then run it from the command line to make sure that everything is working as expected. Where to put it? I have a 'bin' folder in my home directory where I put stuff like this. I normally advocate against using try/catch as a control structure, but this is one specific case where it can easily be the simplest solution. But I never do this. Paul's advice is good. Two other techniques: 1) If you're deep down many levels of function calls, doing a simple return may not work. Use a 'throw' to bail out completely. If you don't want the user to see an error message, do a try/catch and see if the error is one you should ignore, one you should handle, or one you should let the user know about. 2) Hit ESC a bunch of times.
