Hi Kenny. It seems that neither of the HERO files are using lossless sound, although the GH5 might just be. As you are running a PC, can you please go get & install a copy of Mediainfo and post back screenshots of the text report for each of the 3 above files? This is a wonderful tool & will tell us much about what is going on with your audio, but until we can see the details suffice it to say that lossy audio of any description is just not your friend. We only have a Hero4 here but that can be set to either WAV or mp4 for audio - saet the bugger to WAV, always set to WAV and where possible set to a 48kHz sample rate (you have already done this - that advice is for the benefit of others reading this thread) and also make sure your video is set to as high a quality as you can achieve - especially if you are editing later - as editing lossy video accompanied by lossy audio is always going to be very hit & miss. Lossy formats should only EVER be used as final output - never as recording and never as interim files. Maintain the highest quality you possibly can right up until the last minute for best results. mgrenadier is absolutely bang on the money when he states above that compressed audio may cause the issues and I would say the bitrate tells us all we really need to know (the audio is extremely heavily data reduced - I do not like the use of the word 'compressed' for this, as to an audio engineer like myself the expression 'compressed' means something entirely different to data reduction) I look forward to seeing the MediaInfo text report - once it is installed (and it is free - did I mention that already?) you can interrogate any media file with a simple right-click. Lossless audio is a catch-all term that describes any PCM audio stream, and whilst it is possible to have 8-bit lossless audio we generally take the term to mean anything from 16-bit 44.1kHz upwards, which is of course the rate of RedBook audio for CD. For video, YouTube notwithstanding, the minimum rate is usually taken as 16-bit 48kHz, and to my mind you should never, ever use 44.1k on a video file because it is frankly bad practise.   Generally, unless there is a damned good reason 192kHz is excessive and has the potential to introduce some problems you should never face (such as biasing frequencies) and I am of the firm opinion it doubles your file sizes from the optimal 24/96 and gains you nothing except the need for larger storage drives.  What sample rates should you be using? That depends on what you are doing, and I would again advise no higher than 96k and that 48k will often be fine unless your delivery specs ask for 96k. Bit Depth is another matter altogether. 16-bit audio can be brittle sounding & I prefer 24-bit, which also has a far greater dynamic range potential as 24-bit audio has 48dB of dynamic range over 16-bit. Premiere Pro does indeed support plugins. You'll need to initialize these by running a scan (you don't mention what OS you are on so what I am giving may not be quite the same unless you are on a PC) so please try this: Go to Edit/Preferences and select the Audio tab. At the bottom of the screen you will see 'Audio Plug-in Manager' - open this. The default VST plugin locations will be automatically scanned, but if like me you set up a custom location for VST2 plugins this will need to be added. That should sort out adding plugins for use.   To access these in a project, open the Audio Track Mixer and click on the location marked in the screengrab 'ATM' This will open up the screengrab 'Plugin List' where you will see all the available VST2 plugins listed by type, as well as the VST3 tab - this opens up to show something similar to the VST2 tab.   With this type of plugin (detect silence) you need to be really careful - it is all too easy to delete stuff you actually need. When I am working with 5.1 audio, I find it is far, far better to set up the sequence manually with the settings you want. You may also need to take a side-trip through an Audio tool to recombine the 6 mono split files into a 5.1 interleaved file.   I'll also check the suggested solution above here & see if that works for me. I think I can see the problem. In the video you supplied (very helpful) right at the point where the dropout in the render occurs there is a second empty audio part - I suspect that the render is behaving for audio as it does with video, and that when you render it is using the audio on A2 (which is silent) instead of on A1. To test this, can you try unlinking the clips at 00:02:33:11 and deleting the audio clip, then re-render the file? If I am right this will solve the problem. ... View more

Has anything changed audio-wise at all? Can I also ask what the source format is for audio - is it lossy, and how are you handling it in Premiere? Are all files properly conformed? (I ask as I have seen some video files defaulting to 44.1, which will be awful if you don't notice in time - believe me on that one as I have been there & done that) and I have also noticed that using mp3 as source can drop sync gradually as well. The first thing I would do is change the display of your audio waveforms from 'rectified' to 'waveform' by clicking on the 3 horizontal line 'hamburger' by the sequence name tab. That will enable you to see what is happening visually. As far as automatic sync goes, not that I know of. Have you tried a combination of the 2 apps to get this done? Why not simply export a waveform audio file from Premiere to use as a sync reference, and import this into Audition so you can use this as a straight reference for the multitrack mix session? Another possibility is to include an MP4 as a visual check too?   My method with stuff like this is to dump a 24/48 wave file from Premiere, open Nuendo & create a new project with the same settings as Premiere (so if in HD, usually 23.98 or 24fps depending on the video) and drop in the reference audio, and align everything in the multitrack to this. I do not know if Premiere Pro can handle mixed sample rates (I seriously doubt it can) but by far & away the best way is to change thesample rate but leave the project SR the same. So for example at a sample rate of 48k, you play out at 48,000 samples per second. To slow this down you need to have the audio at a higher sample rate - so to slow it down by 10% you need to resample the audio by upsampling from 48,000 + approx 4,800 (you will need to work this out properly as upsampling by 10% will cause more than a 10% slowdown of course). Then render the upsampled audio out at the original sample rate. This will slow it down. Best of all, you will simply not get any nasty time stretching algorithm artifacts. Audition or your regular DAW is the best way to pull this off, and then re-import the resulting audio file back into premiere ... View more

Netflix is terrible for drifting sync. We were watching something on it last week & the longer it played the further the sync drifted with the audio getting further & further ahead of the video - yet pausing playback & restarting it put things back in sync again (albeit on a temporary basis) The worst of this is that it is happening more & more often these days. ... I see that this camera does not shoot at 24fps. This is a real shame, as that s the only truly global frame rate if you want to go anywhere near Optical discs. That said, I think your problem is that according to the UK Apeman website, it doesn't actually shoot at 29.97 in 2.7K at all - it's at 30fps, and this could be your problem right there and the longer the clip the further the sync will drop. You should be okay. I often see this when exporting via the AME using a 3rd party x264 encoder, and I have found that it is usually caused by a leading silence in the audio stream (at least in my case) where I have added a coupple of seconds of videoblack ahead of a piece intended for Blu-ray where the editor has actually started the visual content from frame #1 (which is absolutely hopeless for any optical disc, as you will lose the first second at least whilst the player locks down on the stream & outputs decoded audio/video). If I simply wait for the inevitable crash, click on the red triangle & clear the 'error' and then save, shut down, relaunch & try again it will often just work. ... View more

So if wespend this money - after already forking out $300 for the Adobe plugin for Premiere - will I be able to import a blasted AC3 file into PPro on Windows 7? There is absolutely no way on God's earth I am going anywhere near the mess that is Windows 10 because I will lose far too much hardware & software I require on a daily basis that will not run on W10 because the developers went broke. You're never going to get a lossy codec to sound the same as a lossless one. What you can do though is make the most of what is available to you, and to start with the mastering. Bear in mind a lot of streaming sites now either use by default or have the option to use a levelling algorithm to keep audio levels at a certain level or thereabouts. Personally I loathe these, as I have an amplifier & know how to use it but we are stuck with this in the modern world it seems. It turns out that if you master too hot these algorithms will turn you down automatically  and that will never sound as good as you remember it either - it will get a lot thinner sounding. It's much better to actually master your music to the loudness standards of your streaming platform rather than let an algorithm just automatically attenuate things. Sorry to say you cannot actually do this. No streaming site allows lossless audio, more is the pity. I also must disagree with the comment from Averdahl below, as once you teach yourself how to hear codec fluff, you cannot unhear it. YouTube & the like almost all use either AAC-LC at pitiful bitrates, and I know from YouTube that in 3/4 of the ccases you can hear a lot more than mere codec fluff - at a lot of channels the audio is so bad it is distorted, or bubbly or at times both. The best thing is to recall that the audio is half of the production and not an afterthought (as your post heavily implies already) and always use the highest quality setting for audio that you can. But getting your uploaded file to a streaming channel to sound exactly like the original is simply not going to happen. If you are serious about this subject, I can highly recommend the Sonnox Fraunhofer Pro-Codec application, which has a standalone component as well as a plugin component specifically to allow you to hear what your lossy encoded audio will sound like before you actually run the process - it encodes & decodes 'on the fly' for you and better yet you can set up comparisons with up to 4 different settings. I'm still trying to understand the project so please bear with me. Are the 8 tracks on the source separate source material - along the lines of Dialogue, M&E, SFX etc, or are they final mixes configured in a similar way to the old-style DTRS tapes - Left, Right, Centre, LFE, Left Rear, Right Rear, M&E Left, M&E Right (or sometimes Stereo left/right for channels 7/8). So are we talking a project that needs the audio to still be mixed, or a set of completed mixes already in sync? Also, what is the project's purpose - it's end result? Do you need stereo or surround? I suspect I am probably reading too much into the 8-channel audio here simply because it sounds so similar to DTRS whereas it may well be that what you have on the source is not necessarily containing 8 separate audio mmixes - I have seen transfers sent to me that supposedly have 4 channels of audio but closer examination revealed one mix printed twice, for some reason. Is there any documentation with the source material, and what's your brief for the project?   I ask because this will have a definite bearing on how to set up an Audio template you will later be able to recall and adapt for other content.  ...
